7 Hopes fo a More Conservative 2007
Posted by Adam Graham in : Idaho Conservative, TheProblogger has another group writing contest. This one is looking for predictions and reviews. While, I won’t make any predictions, I will talk about hopes.
2006 was a sobering year for conservatives. In 2007, it has to be better. At least I hope so. Here are my 7 best hopes for 2007. These are things which could make a huge positive impact that I believe are possible in 2007:
1) Jim Tibbs winning Mayor of Boise
Boise’s political leadership has been arrogant and out of touch. An avoidance of public feedback and general arrogance has poisoned much of the political well in Boise. Well, some may think I’m only concerned with the Ten Commandments. There have been other issues such as the airport parking where the city has shown a willingness-nay-a desire to go around voters. Replacing Bieter and chief provaceur Alan Shealy would be a great start to restoring credability and respect to our city.
2) George Bush unleashing the veto pen.
The George W. Bush I re-elected in 2004 was a fighter. Two years later, Bush seems utterly beaten and enfeebled, a man for whom a plane flight to Crawford couldn’t come soon enough. If Bush comes back strong, we can hold back the Democrat’s crazy legislative agenda, and hopefully somehow the President will find the will to fight for principle.
3) The Emergence of John Cox
I just gave my endorsement of Mr. Cox’s 2008 Presidential campaign. Americans are looking for a leader, and Mr. Cox is delivering a solid conservative message. Time and time again, I’ve seen these voters hooked into the horse race game and convinced to support candidates they don’t believe in. My hope is that the Cox campaign will get many conservatives to dare to dream again and to think we can do better than what we have now.
4) Bobby Jindal winning the Governor’s race in Louisiana:
Early polls show him the favorite. Should he win, Bobby Jindal could be a young Ronald Reagan in waiting provided he can turn around the state of Louisiana. He’s optomistic, hopeful, and charistmatic. In short, watch out for him in 2016.
5) Tax Relief, Spending Control, and Education Reform from the Idaho Legislature
Thought a slim possibility in year’s past, a more Conservative legislature could bring home reforms in the sales tax, keep spending under control, and without the impedient of a Democratic superintendent, make strides in reforming public education. It’s going to be hard road, but should Republicans deliver, I think we’ll win back the vote of a lot of people who voted Democrat despite backing conservative ballot measures.
6) Mitch McConnell follows through.
There’s a great deal of hope that Mitch McConnell will be able to reign in the Democrats. McConnell could truly best Harry Reid. If he’s able to stall Democratic agenda items in the Senate, he may be able to help get another Supreme Court Justice through without having to give away the store.
7) Bill Sali shines
Bill Sali was named President of the Freshman Republican Class in the House. While, he’s never been in the minority before, he may be a perfect fit to challenge the Democrat Majority in the House. He’s got the tenacity, guts, and courage to take on the liberals and lead a charge for common sense. Sali’s success will determine how hard his likely rematch with Larry Grant in 2008 will go.
