A Tad Pensive About Refighting This
Posted by Adam Graham in : Side BlogApparently, a new Supreme Court case provides new hope that the scurrilous reason for Fred Phelps’ lawsuit could be taken away by ruling that a monument such as Phelps’ anti-Matthew Shepherd hate monument does not need to be given equal time with the 10 commandments.
I’m reluctant to refight this right now. The City voted down a 10 Commandments Monument 53-47% in 2006. The City Council has not become more conservative, so it’ll mean another citizen’s initiative. The City of Boise is becoming more left wing as time goes by thanks to Mayor Bieters tax and spend policies which are driving working families to Meridian. Probably the best shot for an initiative would be in a Presidential election year where voter turnout would be at maximum level. I think 2008 will be bad because I expect that Democratic turnout will be up for Obama and down for McCain. 2012 would be the best shot, but even then it would be long odds.
