Be a Man and Take that Welfare Check

Apparently not liking the fact that we are about to have a president who actually cares about leading this country forward AM670 afternoon host Nate Shelman was ranting about not wanting to be dependent on the government. He’s upset that we are about to have a president who is going to be hands on in cleaning up 8 years of Republican messes — namely our failing economy.
You know, Chris is right, I’m tired of people whining and demanding the government NOT take care of them. It’s time for Nate Shelman to man up and let Papa Obama be the daddy-in-chief. We can’t have any of this rugged individualism garbage. If we get too many people that aren’t willing to be dependent on government, disaster will ensue. They might start taking care of their own family and neighbors and get in the way of government. If these type of shennigans persist, we might balance the budget someday (though given our current state of affairs, this is probably far fetched.)
And that’s fine, I respect that he doesn’t want to be dependent on the government, but don’t ever call the police, the fire department, the EMS, expect the military to ever defend you or your rights, drive on paved roads, send your children to public school, eat uncontaminated food, etc… etc…
Chris correctly identifies that if we believe the government should provide roads and emergency services, then we also believe it’s government job to take care of us from cradle to grave. Chris gives us our clear choice: we must either be Socialists or total complete anarchists who want no government at all. There is no middle ground.
Some might call this an either/or fallacy, but if President-elect Obama is making the same argument, it’s right, because when it comes to overcoming the laws of logic, Obama has one simple response, “Yes, we can.”
