British Freedom RIP

Posted by Adam Graham in : Future of Conservatism

From the London Sun:

THE Conservatives will propose banning plasma screens and other energy-guzzling electrical goods in a report to be unveiled next week. The proposals target white goods like fridges and freezers, as well as TVs, personal computers and DVD players that use too much energy or operate on stand-by.The ideas come from a Conservative group set up by David Cameron to develop policies to protect the environment and although the measures to make household electrical appliances more energy efficient are not binding on Mr Cameron, they are thought likely to be warmly received by the Tory leader.

The group will also suggest scrapping Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as a measure of the nation’s success in favour of a model that measures people’s happiness drawn up up by Friends of the Earth.

Under the proposals, a cap could be set on the energy use of each electrical appliance, and those exceeding limits could be banned from sale in the UK.

Yech. We can safely say that the grip of statism is secure on the British state and that Britons will soon be completely subjugated to the almighty state. It’s sad really. To survive the frontal attack of Nazism and Communism, only to yield freedom to a PC nannystate

LOL, your savior GWB can arrest any AMERICAN CITIZEN name him/her an enemy combatant and put them in prison forever with no chance of due process. LOSS OF FREEDOM IN GREAT BRITAN? HOW ABOUT RIGHT HERE IN AMERICA? If you voted for GWB you have the blood of thousands on your hands.

George W. Bush isn’t my savior and when you have American Citizens being thrown at prison you’ll have a point. And all the liberals who whine about the Patriot Act rarely have any problem with the income tax.

First of all, one doesn’t have to be an American citizen to have “Inalienable Rights”. I think we all agree with Jefferson that they are “endowed by our creator”, not by the Constitution.

How anybody can compare the psychological torture and deprivation of due process of indefinite incarceration or the Nazi Holocaust or the systematic human rights abuses of Communism with the restriction of high-end appliances and income taxes is beyond me.

Poor terrorists, I really feel for them and with the Military Tribunals Act, there’s a process laid out.

In addition, I didn’t mention Nazism or Communism. Those are extreme forms of totalitarianism. But there are far less extreme ways of losing your liberty.

First, with an income tax. Let’s understand two things. First of all, we’re required to report our every income producing activity to the government. That’s not something a free people does, but rather a slave reporting to a master.

Add to this that under the income tax, the government gets a claim to your income before you’ve spent a cent, DETERMINED by them. If they determine what percentage they get, than how much do they control in principle? Every penny. Sounds more like slavery than freedom.

I think an over-arching, bossy nanny state that presumes to regulate every area of your life and to control your life is clearly not compatible with freedom and if you study Great Britain, you know that that’s the type of government, Britain has.
