Of course, I’m hardly alone in seeing staggering increases in the cost of health care as the insurance companies brace for the impact of the full implementation of Obamacare. (i.e. Patient Protection and Affordable (Heh)  Care Act.)

On the way up to being middle class,  from being a poor kid living in Montana, I heard constantly how Republicans in the lower and middle classes were voting against their own interests. Something like the premium hikes that have sprung up from Obamacare. suggests that it may be middle class Democrats who are voting against their own interests.

After all, the vast majority of Americans who had perfectly fine healthcare  insurance  prior to the passage of Obamacare really didn’t benefit from this “reform. ” If you voted for Obama, you voted for a huge spike in your health insurance premiums. President Obama promised not to raise your taxes if you earned less than $250,000 (smokers and those who use tanning beds have already been lied to) but there are other ways for government to increase your expenses without raising taxes.

In addition, a friend in the insurance industry tells me that these hikes are going across the country.

 If you want a brief summation of why this economy is dulldrums, you have two big problems that can be laid at the feet of this administration: 1) the high cost of gasoline (hovering between $3.50 and 4.00 a gallon) caused by this administration’s horrendous and out of touch energy policy which throws up roadblocks to our exploitation of our own resources  and 2) a health care bill that’s vastly increasingly the amount we pay for our health insurance.

America has a 9 +% unemployment rate and those who are employed are getting squeezed by the Obama Administration’s two headed beast.  That’s no formula for economic recovery.

“We do have a serious problem in terms of debt and deficit, and much of it I inherited,” Obama said. The financial crisis, he said, made the problem worse.

To an extent, Obama has a point. The country was in bad shape in 2008. That’s why he was elected. However, the “inherited” problems excuse is something that ran out of anything meaningful power a year ago. To quote the great Super Chicken, “You knew the job was dangerous when you took it.” Obama promised to turn things around, to bring us the change we needed. During most of the campaign unemployment was at 5%, through most of Obama’s term, it’s been at 9%.  The question once again is, “Are you better off than you were four years ago?”

Obama is like a baseball manager who took over a team that only won 70 games and promised to turn it around. It’s three years into his contract, and now the team is only winning 60 games a year with no prospects of getting better. A manager can’t complain about “inherited” problems. He’ll ultimately be fired because he failed to turn the team around, and he didn’t even make any progress.

Americans may feel that George W. Bush got us into the recession. But in 2011, that’s irrelevant. What we care about is how we’re going to get out of this mess.

Stepping up a simmering constitutional conflict, House Speaker John A. Boehner warned President Obama on Tuesday that unless he gets authorization from Congress for his military deployment in Libya, he will be in violation of the War Powers Resolution.

The big question is, If Obama doesn’t get support by Friday, what is Boehner going to do?  If we were following the Constitution, we’d be impeach Obama for this. But, we’d also have impeached every President from Truman on who committed U.S. Troops to battle without a clear Declaration of War as required by the Constitution.

Instead, we have a situation where we’ve tried to kind of follow the Constitution to make up for the fact that we live in a world where the President must sometimes act due to the fact that we’re no longer fighting 18th century wars and speed is of the essence. The War Powers Act requires the President get a resolution authorizing the use of force within 60 days of going in. The President hasn’t tried to do that and isn’t going to as he knows that there’s no way Congress will sign off on it. So, the President is thumbing his nose at the law.

Congress only has one recourse in this case when dealing with a lawless President, and that is Impeachment. However, the option is untenable for many reasons. Not, the least of these is that Bill Clinton also violated the War Powers Act and was not impeached. Though in that case, Clinton had just been impeached and the House Managers had been told by that great Statesman and advocate of justice, Ted Stevens, “I don’t care if you can prove he raped a woman, stood her up and shot her, you’re not going to  get 67 votes.”  This was slightly discouraging to taking another go at it.

Still, the bar has been set so low, unconstitutionally that illegally committing U.S. Troops to war and making a mockery of laws you’re supposed to hold could hardly be considered impeachable. Indeed, there’s even some division among the GOP as many Republicans think it’s the President’s right as commander-in-chief to put our nation’s armed  forces into action any time he wants, and for however long he wants without pesky congressional approval. Such a notion would cause the Founders to roll over in their graves. It gives the President almost Imperial Authority with our nation’s troops to drag us into everyone else’ s wars. But there’s enough thought like that in the GOP Caucus to paralyze Boehner.

Also, thanks to the lack of the anti-war agitprop and media agitation we had during the Bush Administration, the public is barely aware of the campaign going on. Thus, the American people aren’t outraged because they haven’t been informed.

As such, Boehner is setting himself up to look foolish and ineffective. Republicans won’t cancel funding for an operation in progress, they won’t impeach the President, and they won’t force him to comply with the War Powers Act. Boehner’s policy on this seems to be, “Speak loudly and carry a small stick.”

One final note: After spending years listening to liberals rave about, “Bush’s illegal wars,”  I have to declare that the silence on Libya is deafening. Say what you want about Iraq and Afghanistan, but President Bush respected the law and got an authorization for the use of force from Congress before going in.  Apparently, liberals are only anti-war and only against “illegal wars” if a Republican is in power.

Yesterday’s operation was a victory for our Country and for its military. It’s something that all Americans can share in. Certainly, President Obama is to be congratulated as this operation was brilliantly executed on watch. Certainly,  President Bush deserves some credit as his administration laid the groundwork and indeed the information began to come together in 2007. The key to our national defense is so many people who defend our country regardless of how elections turn out.

I take satisfaction in the competence of our military and their undying professionalism. I’m satisfied that justice was done and that closure will be brought to 9/11 families. As the President said last night, this does not end our nation’s efforts against Al Qaeda, and the fight will go on.

The President’s birth certificate should resolve any reasonable questions and we should not be hearing about birthers. That’s what should happen. What will happen is more complex. Hopefully, most people will move on. A few people just won’t be able to.

For some, it’s an emotional thing. They’ve put themselves too far out on the limb to come back and sheepishly say I was wrong. Anytime, there’s a conspiracy theory that people become obsessed with, some become too emotionally invested to admit there was no conspiracy. Therefore, people believe the Warren Commission was a fraud, and that  two Independent Counsel reports from offices overseen by Republican IG sconcluding that Vince Foster committed suicide, are merely covering up.

For others, there are more practical reasons to keep the conspiracy alive. I don’t know if the folks at WND remember how to cover a major story that doesn’t involve the President’s birth certificate. And there are a few other outlets that will lose a lot of traffic as people lose interest in the story.

Whether we’re seeing an example of emotional investment or commercial outrage, Jay Taylor, writing at Vision to America is dealing with the results:

President Obama has finally released his birth certificate. There doesn’t seem to be anything shocking or embarrassing in it that would explain the reluctance to release it. It just looks like your normal birth certificate that all of us have. Of course we’d love to put this issue behind us and move onto the important issues facing our nation …

Well, maybe I was wrong. Maybe, all the birth certificate activists will turn their energy to addressing our nation’s runaway debt or cultural decline…

but questions still remain.

*sigh*  Okay, like what. What piercing questions challenge the authenticity of the document.

Why, if Obama was born on August 4, 1961, was the “Date Accepted by Local Reg.” four days later on August 8, 1961?

Boy, there’s no possible explanation for THAT. Until you find out that August 4, 1961 was a Friday. It seems somewhat plausible that nothing would be proceessed at the Registar’s office on the weekend. The hospital might not even got it in the mail to them until the 7th. Or maybe the person who handled these took a personal day.Conspiracies never allow for personal days.

David A. Sinclair, the M.D. who signed the document, died nearly eight years ago at age 81 making him unavailable to comment. How convenient.

The President is 49 years old. How many men Obama’s age have the doctor who delivered them still living.  There are other questions raised by the author, I’m about as qualified to challenge them as he is to ask them. They pertain to questions such as how a 1961 Hawaiian hospital would describe the race of Obama’s African Father and what numbers mean on the side of the birth certificate. Mr. Taylor does not know. He’s no expert on Hawaiian birth certificates, but there’s been so much invested, he just can’t let it go.

However, I think most will move on. However, I would strongly encourage them to move on to issues that really effect the country and not move on to Obama’s college grades. No one cares.

Obama has been President for nearly three years and Americans will judge him by what he did office, not what grades he got in Intermediate Algebra.It’s time to let it go:

To say that the theory that President Obama was not born in Hawaii is a conspiracy theory is an insult to conspiracy theorists.

The JFK assassination theorists at least have some probable explanation to cover most of their bases. People who challenged whether the death of Vince Foster was a suicide had some serious forensics questions about the matter. Now, most of the people asking the questions may have been amateurs, but there was at least some rhyme and reason to the questions. A good conspiracy theorist has got a story to tell that is endowed with some, at least, superficial plausibility.

What we’re presented with the questions about the President’s birth certificate doesn’t even rise to the level of hypothesis. There is no story of how this supposed conspiracy went down.  I see two possibilities. Note that I’m not saying these stories are true. What I’m saying is that these are the only two scenarios under which the President could have been born outside the United States and his Hawaiian birth certificate could be a forgery:

Theory #1: The Truly Anointed One

Barack Obama was destined by shadowy individuals to become President of the United States from the day he was born. Every step of Obama’s life has been orchestrated to lead him to the Presidency.

“They” arrnaged everything from Obama’s education to the life experiences that would form him. Their only problem? Obama had been born in Kenya, so that required creating the myth of  Obama being born in Hawaii.

The birth certificate was fabricated in 1961, a small bribe paid to an insignificant hospital official who had no idea why “they” wanted to create a false birth certificate for a child named Barack Obama. However, the official got good money for it.  Newspaper reports would be easy enough to fabricate.

Of course, one might ask how such a tentacle-like conspiracy could have allowed the birthplace of Obama to occur in Kenya. Here, we can perhaps credit Mau Mau fanaticism with wanting to stick a finger in the eye of the U.S. Constitution.

So, all we needed was a wealthy shadowy benefactor with Mau Mau sympathies who orchestrated a massive cover-up.

Theory #2: The Benefactor

Rather than the conspiracy from birth, perhaps more promising is the idea of a benefactor who saw in a young Obama, the potential to be president of the U.S. and funded Obama’s education, pointed his political career in the right direction, and took care of this little matter of the birth certificate by getting a forged record of live birth.

The reason then that the original long form birth certificate has never been released is that its a forgery that if exposed to careful analysis would become apparent as happened in the Rathergate story in 2004. Here again, we have to depend on a sophisticated bribed official who planted the forged information.

The  benefactor would also have to had the foresight  to have altered copies of the two newspapers that had Obamas birth annnouncement as well as to ensure that no microfiche version of the papers existed without the fraudulent birth announcements planted.

If either one of these stories were true, then the stories of President Obama’s being born in Kenya would be plausible. However, neither story is all that credible.

Perhaps, it would be slightly  more believable if we had actual names. Even Jim Garrison’s silly JFK theories had some credibility because real names were used. But even with real names, the theory seems a little silly.

And to be honest, I’m more apt to believe Louisiana Drag Queens plotted the JFK assassination than in the global conspiracy that managed to rig the state of Hawaii’s records.

It is popular among the movement that challenges the validity of President Obama’s birthplace to demand, “Where’s the birth certificate?”  This question assumes that the President is under some burden of proof to provide his original long-form birth certificate.

The President is under no such burden. The certificate of live birth from the state of Hawaii that President Obama has provided would be acceptable anywhere that a birth certificate is required. It would be good enough to get him a U.S. passport. The burden of proof is on those who insist there’s not a birth certificate to provide that undermines the credibility of the President’s claim to being born in the United States.

The real question then must be directed at those who insist the President was not born in the United States and that question is, “Where’s the evidence?” The best “evidence” I’ve seen so far? A confused statement from an elderly woman who doesn’t speak English and was asked a leading question through a translator.  The rest doesn’t even rise above the level of political gossip.

The biggest problem may be that we have no proof whatsoever that Obama’s parents flew to Kenya.  And there are some very good reasons to suggest they wouldn’t have.

Flights to Kenya are very expensive and that didn’t change. How would two college students get the money for such a trip?

Secondly, let’s remember that Obama’s mother was pregnant before any supposed flight to Kenya. Given that Obama Sr. was still in school, they would have had to flown out together during the third trimester of pregnancy. So we’re to believe that a very pregnant woman undertook the rigors of international flight, and stayed in Kenya until the time she was going to be deliver the child, knowing that she would be giving birth in a third world country where both her life and the life of her baby would be at a greater risk of death. And for what purpose would she undertake this?

That behavior doesn’t make sense. Of course, human behavior doesn’t always make sense, but before I’m going to believe something so nonsensical occurred, I’d need a little thing called evidence. And wishful supposition is not evidence.

However, the editorial is problematic for a number of reasons.

First of all, why is Obama even writing any of it rather than doing? While Obama could use a little federal cash to “reward state” for having better background information, he doesn’t need Congress’ support for enforcing the law. This is something to call the Attorney General and tell him to get to work.

Second, why this issue?  This is not one where gun owners are particularly trustful of Obama and beyond tweaking background checks, this could be seen as opening the door to a renewed gun control push.

Third, it seems to be a throw back move. This editorial is reminiscent of Bill Clinton’s strategy leading up to the 1996 elections: Obama used triangulation to argue that he’s for reasonable laws, putting himself in opposition to gun control advocates in his own party and from “those who aren’t interested in participating” in Obama’s conversation over guns. In 1995, this would be an okay strategy for Bill Clinton with a recovering economy and a shrinking budget deficit. With unemployment still around 9% and trillion dollar a year deficits, this seems to show a president who is still not focused on the concerns of the American people.

Add to that the fact that the measures advocated in the piece wouldn’t have prevented the Tucson shooting the President mentions, and only positive out of this story for the Democrats is that

Now, imagine the Supreme Court overturns it.

After this week’s court ruling, President Obama faces that possibility. District Court Judge Robert Vinson ruled the entirety of Obamacare unconstitutional based on the unconstitutionality of the Individual Mandate. This is due to the fact that the Individual Mandate is not severable from the whole of Obamacare.

We’re still a long way from finality on the issue, the White House is in serious political peril here by what the judicial process might produce. It seems likely that with the current pace of events, we may very well know whether Obamacare is constitutional or not before the November elections.

If the constitution is followed and Obamacare is completely undone, it will devestate the Democrats.  It will mean that given a huge House Majority and 60 seats in the Senate for two years, Obama would have accomplished nothing of any importance, while Americans suffered through an awful recession.

It would further the idea that Democrats rushed through a partisan plan with little preparation.

When this case reaches the Supreme Court, four justices of the court can be expected to believe Congress went too far, while four will be okay with no limits on the commerce clause at all. In the middle, as usual will be Justice Anthony Kennedy. How Kennedy votes on the constitutionality on Obamacare could well be the tipping point for the Obama presidency.

The first draft of the speech reportedly contained this line, “For example, my predecessor in this office was always blaming his problems on someone else. I inherited such an awful mess from him…”

First of all, I’m not sure why anyone on the left would have a problem with someone saying that Obama is a communist. The left has had no problem with communism.  Internationally, the left with few exceptions didn’t understand there was a threat and thought Ronald Reagan was a fool for going about saying there was an evil empire. Domestically, the political  left has argued for tolerance of communism. The fact that there were abuses by the House UnAmerican Activities Committee and some of the anti-Communists in the 1950s has led to a leftist orthodoxy that insists there was never any Communist attempt to undermine our nation’s government or culture. And that Communists themselves are really quite harmless and idealistic.

Of course, the left would never take such a laissez faire approach to adherence to  Nazism. But this is because while Communism may have killed five times as many people as Nazism, Communism isn’t inherently racist. Communism is an equal opportunity mass murderer and therefore worthy of toleration wherever its found.

That said, do I think Obama is a communist? Communism as defined by Wikipedia:

Communism is a social structure in which classes are abolished and property is commonly controlled, as well as a political philosophy and social movement that advocates and aims to create such a society.

Does Obama advocate for such a society? No. Then, he’s not a Communist.

However, I think that its clear that Obama, like the rest of the left is definitely influenced by the ideas of Marx when it comes to thinks like “spreading the wealth around.”  The left in America is ultimately neo-Marxist, one might call it practical marxism.

The Communists often insisted that Communism was never really tried, and to an extent, they were right. Communism, like pure libertarianism is a Utopian idea that doesn’t work on Planet Earth. The type of men who rise to the top of any nation are not the type of folks who would hold rigidly to an inflexible philosophy that only works on paper. Pragmatic neo-Marxism is the order of the day.

We don’t abolish the right to poverty or inheritance as Marx called for, we just drastically regulate what people can do with their own land and lay heavy taxes on inheritances that forces people to liquidate what they inherit.

One part that the left has left intact from the Communist manifesto is that we do pass a heavy progressive tax on income, and the left wishes it was heavier.

The left doesn’t call for the centralization of credit or of government ownership of means of production, rather the left tries to control these means through regulation.

And of course, the left believes in union-controlled public schools and distrusts any private school or homeschooled family.

The American left in every way aims to achieve the ends of Communism, however they offer more politically palatable means to achieve their ends.

Leftists will dispute with me on this. But look at the 10 point program of the Communist Manifesto and tell me other than Marx’s belief in the abolition of the distinction between town and country and the confiscation of land from emigrants, what would be objectionable to the political left?:

Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.

A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.

Abolition of all right of inheritance.

Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.

Centralisation of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.

Centralisation of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the State.

Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State; the bringing into cultivation of waste-lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.

Equal liability of all to labour. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.

Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of the distinction between town and country, by a more equitable distribution of the population over the country.

Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children’s factory labour in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production.

The platform of the American left is Marxism 2.0.  It believes in solving our problems through the power of an almighty state that they hope will replace Almighty God.  

Barack Obama is a Marxist 2.0.  The difference between Marxism 1.0 and 2.0 is that Marxism 2.0 is a candy coated, slow acting poison that patiently makes its way through the body politic. More to the point, the population has been systematically programmed through the public schools, the news media, and the entertainment media to believe that the principles of Marxism 2.0 are good, though the end there of is death, and to believe that anyone who talks about marxism, socialism, or communism is only a reactionary nut, and that real marxists and socialists don’t exist to any meaningful extent within the White House.

The Nobel Committee has made a spate of unjustified decisions in recent years, though. Consider the Nobel Prizes for Jimmy Carter, which was mainly an attempt to thumb its nose at George W. Bush for being a “big evil warmonger”.   Or think about the Nobel Prize for Al Gore for jetting around the world in large private jets to scare us to death about global warming.

There used to be a time when Nobel Peace Prize winners earned their awards through a lifetime of work for peace. Not today. Today, we give it to a guy for accomplishing nothing, as a slap on the back and an atta boy to the world’s favorite pats. Congratulations, Mr. President, Nelson Mandela had to spend 20 years in jail to get the award that you “earned” by being elected on a promise of hope and change. Mother Teresa had to spend decades in the slums of calcutta for the sick and dying to earn her award.

As bad as the Nobel Prize Committee’s decisions this decade have been, they have made dumb decisions before, like handing an award to terrorist Yasser Arafat become the committee was snowed into believing that the  Palestinians would change their way. Or the decision to award Woodrow Wilson the Nobel Peace Prize for coming up with the idea for the League of Nations (which ended up failing) and composing the Fourteen Points (which was totally ignored at the Versailles treaty.)

 However, beginning with the Jimmy Carter prize in 2002, the Noble Prize Committee began issuing awards to people who had no business even being considered for one. This however takes the cake. It devalues the award. With apologies to Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, and Martin Luther King, being a Nobel Peace Prize winner means far less than it did seven years.

This ill-conceived, ill-begotten plan does nothing to advance the causes of environmentalism, alternative energy or climate change.  Nor does it broadly or fairly provide relief to businesses and individuals suffering under the protracted and severe recession.  But it does carve out the auto companies and a fraction of the car buying public for $4 billion worth of goodies.  No doubt, many will take advantage of the provisions in the bill, but it probably won’t come close to producing sales of a million units that some in Congress are crowing about.
