The plot of this episode features Joe Friday undercover. An ex-con places an ad about being willing to do anything for money and calls Friday and Gannon when a response sounds like an offer to commit murder.

It’s now time for the fourth day of my vacation “Dragnet Marathon” as I present a classic episode of Dragnet for people to enjoy while I’m out of state in the Portland area.

This episode was notable for a number of reasons. In this episode, Joe Friday and Bill Gannon investigate a fellow officer on charges of Armed Robbery. The young office is played by Kent McCord whose career was boosted by this role. McCord would on to co-star in another Jack Webb TV hit, Adam-12. The show was also noted for Joe Friday’s sensational talk on what it meant to be Cop. Friday’s statement would be entered into the congressional record and spread throughout the country.

This episode is one of the best of the 1950s TV series, featuring one of Dragnet’s most dangerous criminals. Catching him is easy, keeping him behind bars it the big challenge.

We’re restarting open trackbacks, but rather than do my old practice of digging up a lot of different tidbits for each day, we’re going to do one theme for the whole week. This week, it’s Karate Kid quotes.

Today’s Karate Kid quote of the Day from IMDB:

Miyagi: Walk on road, hm? Walk left side, safe. Walk right side, safe. Walk middle, sooner or later
[makes squish gesture]
Miyagi: get squish just like grape. Here, karate, same thing. Either you karate do “yes” or karate do “no.” You karate do “guess so,”
[makes squish gesture]

While Miyagi meant this to apply to Karate, perhaps to applies to politics as well. So, GOP, “You consevatism do “guess so” Squish, just like grape.”

Today, I’m going to share some interesting links that I don’t have a whole lot to write about.

Clayton Cramer warns against Carly Fiorina as a McCain Veep choice.

Chuck Muth praises a reporter for fairness. (Pigs fly overhead?)

The Stupidest Business Decisions in History (Hat Tip: Evangelical Outpost.)

Alan Abromowitz urges Democrats to cheer up as the fundamentals of the election still favor them.

Also, on this day in 1931: Wes Ferrell of the Cleveland Indians pitched a 7-0 no-hitter over the St. Louis Browns, including his brother Rick. Wes Ferrell also knocked in four runs with a homer and a double. (source: Today in Baseball History.)

Usually, I have one a post filled with quotes, days, etc. But Today, I’m presented a unique problem. I have many great posts I’d like you to read and none really need any extra commentary from me. I’d rather not fill the Sideblog with a ton of entries.

Warner Todd Huston covers Reuters misreporting on a man forced out of his home, allegedly by guns.

Chuck Muth reports on a top secret proclamation in Nevada honoring homeschoolers. But shhhh, don’t tell anybody.

Meanwhile about what you’d expect from government. Voice of America (a radio station meant to spread American values around the World) reportedly has problems with anti-American propoganda.

Finally, another weird worshipful Obama fan video:

Personal update: I completed the first week of the President’s Challenge from the President’s Council on physical witness. I walked to work last two days, did Tae Bo’s Beliver’s work out one day, and took a walk just to meet my requirements on one day. But last week (Thursday-Wednesday), I excercised 30 minutes a day for five days. Five weeks to go.
