What do we make of John McCain’s Hispanic Outreach director having a record as a proponent of open borders who served in Vicente Fox’s cabinet with the goal of insuring Mexican immigrants don’t “go native” and maintain their first loyalty to Mexico. If a child is gasping for air, asthmatic, and he’s on the hospital steps, what do the other candidates suggest we do, let him sit there and gasp until he doesn’t have any air left and he dies?..We’re a better country than that.”

Greg Sargent declares, “Right, but the question is whether the GOP base, not the country as a whole, is “better” than this.”

Big Tent Democrats says: “Unfortunately for Huckabee and for the Nation, the Republican Party is NOT a better party than that.”

Sargent’s blog isn’t called “Talking Points” for nothing.

However, is there a problem with Huckabee’s statement? Yes, it’s absolute demagoguery, particularly in regards to the bill he called “AntiChristian” and “UnAmerican” in Arkansas. The sponsor of that bill, Senator Jim Holt was clear that not only didn’t the bill bar emergency care, it couldn’t:

Senator Holt has never stated nor implied that he disapproved of giving emergency treatment to anyone in an emergency situation. “I was well aware when I sponsored SB206 to withhold state benefits from those who are not citizens that Federal law precluded any state law from denying emergency treatment. The wording in SB206 clearly states that the proposed law is referring to withholding ‘benefits that are not federally mandated,’” Holt said.

Emergency treatment was federally mandated by The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act, EMTALA in 1986. This law would also cover prenatal care when the prenatal care involves an emergency. The law specifically extends its protection to women who come to the hospital in labor.

I would say a child on the Hospital Steps suffering an asthma attack without medication would qualify as an emergency, wouldn’t you? As for his opponents, can Huckabee name one that thinks the kids should die the emergency room steps? What about immigration hawk Tom Tancredo, who has proposed denying health care to illegals?:

While Congressman Tancredo says provisions would be made to allow for emergency care, Dr. Sharfstein and many other public health officials remain skeptical. 

No candidate is proposing that emergency care be denied to anyone. Huckabee is either patently ignorant or telling a whopper in order to gain sympathy from a public that’s not paying attention to the whole race. Either way, this speaks poorly for his effort.

The Idaho congressman said many illegal immigrants are in the country to work but estimated that 1 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. are affiliated with gangs.

“It’s like the sixth largest army in the world operating within our borders,” he said.

Speaking at a Meridian Chamber of Commerce luncheon, the freshman Republican said Congress needs to stem the tide of illegal immigration and not grant amnesty to illegal immigrants.

Human rights activist Estella O. Zamora questioned Sali’s statistics and said that while the U.S. needs to improve immigration policy, most illegal immigrants are not a threat.

Of course, the state is left in a jam as they have a large illegal working population that they depend on. This also drives home the point that once we do get the border under control, we have to take a serious look at legal immigration and begin letting people into the country who’ve been waiting. One of the problems with illegal immigration is that it masks our legitimate need for new, legal citizens. I can imagine some better jobs in construction being taken by Americans who are stuck in lower paying positions in jobs like fast food. Employers will find American citizens to fill many higher paying jobs and if there’s still labor need (and there probably will be), that’s where we can increase legal immigration.

At that point several of the goons darted across the street and began trying to bat the cameras out of our hands.  Several more came across the street splitting up, one group of mostly women began dragging MJ across the street by her camera, it’s strap around her wrist.  The other group, mostly men approached me and attempted to keep me from getting to MJ and still trying to get the camera away from me.

I began to try to fight my way toward MJ pushing laughing goons out of my way like some sort of demented schoolyard battle all the while I can see these goons hitting her, pushing her and shoving her.  This battering was so intense that the batteries in her camera were dislodged from a locking compartment that we normally have a hard time opening.

Meanwhile my attackers had managed to keep me away from MJ and finally got the camera away from me.  At several points I thought they were going to get seriously violent, though with me they mostly just pushed and shoved me, hitting me from behind, like the weasels they emulate so well.  I was trying desperately not to swing because I knew no matter what it would be reported that one Minutemen attacked ten poor defenseless commies.

Now, in repeating this information, I feel the need to provide some provisos, because there are people out there who can be best defined as Intellectually disadvantaged who require such disclosures. The vast majority of readers do not and if you do not, then you can skip the rest of this post.

Just because someone is Hispanic or doesn’t speak great English, that doesn’t make them illegal. I’d only encourage calling this hotline if you have direct knowledge of someone’s illegal status.

This is quite hard if you’re not the employer unless the employee has volunteered their illegal status (an event I would consider highly improbable.) This is why we need to beef up employer enforcement. Unfortunately, I foresee some unnecessary harassment coming from this event with the ICE adopting a “boy who cried wolf” attitude towards future complaints.

And God bless those legal immigrants. They went through the paperwork. They studied hard. Many had to learn a new language. They showed a commitment to a nation that most of us take for granted.

The naturalized citizen is often the most patriotic and the most loyal to America — the person who cherishes our freedoms because in many cases, that person knew fewer freedoms in his native land.

This issue is fundamentally about the rule of law, not a hatred of Hispanics or immigrants in general as extremists on the other other side allege.

While I disagreed with your vote against impeaching Clinton for perjury in a civil suit, I understood why you did it. You eloquently and ably represented the case of the House Impeachment managers on the articles that were sent to the House. Then, I read Senator Tom Coburn’s (R-Ok.) book, “Breach of Trust” where he described how you faced down Newt Gingrich and the Republican leadership over spending in 1997, as they prepared to bust the budget caps.

Yes, there have been some poor decisions and some votes I strongly disagreed with. Your support for McCain-Feingold and your membership in the gang of fourteen come immediately to mind, but there have been others, but I have never questioned your good intentions. Until now.

You’ve been going across the country identifying opponents of the illegal immigration bill as “bigots” and comparing concerns about illegal immigration to negative attitudes towards Blacks and Jews. Many questions run through my mind.

First, do you actually believe what you’re saying? Do you think that your fellow South Carolinian, Jim DeMint, is a bigot? Do you think your old comrade-in-arms in the House, Senator Coburn, is? While you can undoubtedly find anti-Hispanic bigots, they don’t represent the mainstream of this movement.

When I talk to people about the border, I find many have no problem with immigration provided that it’s done in accordance with the law. The great thing about America is that it is a land that takes people from all over the world and through the process of assimilation turns them into Americans.

There are many concerns with this bill. Senator Graham, why are those who oppose tearing down the rule of law through amnesty bigots? Our prosperity and safety rests on the respect for law in our country. When we tear that down through amnesty, we begin to chip away at the very foundation of what makes this nation worth emigrating to.

Senator Graham, why is it that people are bigots if they oppose the creation of a permanent underclass (i.e. guest workers) that will feed the corrupt Mexican government? Having once ended a system in this country that thrived on an underclass that did “the jobs Americans won’t do,” why are we now set to re-create it? Is this a bigoted question to ask? Were those folks against the African Slave trade really just anti-African bigots who didn’t want Blacks in their country?

Senator Graham, is it bigoted to expect that those who’ve waited in line and faced the insufferable US immigration bureaucracy be given first opportunity to come to our country rather than those who’ve broken the rules to come into our border? Is it racist to oppose punishing those who try to follow the law while rewarding those who break it? Am I a bigot because I think there is no way you can dump 12-20 million (or 30-40 million, who knows?) new applications for Visas from illegals and get anything other than a massive backlog that leads to permanent amnesty without punishment or accountability?

These are legitimate concerns, but it seems to me you’re so dedicated to passing this amnesty that you’ll declare all legitimate concerns to be nothing more than bigotry. In the process, you’re destroying the Republican Party. Do you want to be in the same party as “the bigots”? Do those who oppose amnesty want to be in a party with those who will demagogue and demonize us in order to make their point? Senator, to me it appears you’re acting like a child, throwing a tantrum with a hammer, not even understanding the damage you’re doing.

If you can actually listen to us long enough to stop demonizing us, maybe at last you’ll understand why we oppose this bill, and address our concerns in a serious and substantive way, rather than with name calling and personal attacks.

It is a political tightrope fraught with peril, but the members know they need more Republican support to break through the logjam.

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, a principle author of the amendment with Republican Sens. Jon Kyl and Mel Martinez, says his amendment is designed to be “a confidence builder” to address members’ concerns that ramped up border security provisions in the bill won’t, in the end, get funded.

Graham hopes to provide $4.4 billion the day the bill is signed, through an estimate in fees and fines in the current immigration bill, to be used to beef up all the border security measures in the bill, with an additional $800 million for further measures, taking from measures put forward last year by New Hampshire Sen. Judd Gregg who called for more investment in capital infrastructure, like unmanned aerial vehicles and new Coast Guard boats.

That’s expectating about 8.8 million people to pay fines for Z-Visas. Given the immediate stay that many are getting at the front end of the bill, I sincerely doubt that. Let’s see some enforcement from the Administration and enforcement-only bill to insure our border’s secure before politicians try to go behind that.

“Business as Usual,” that’s how 63% of Americans describe the Democrat Congress. (hat tip: Captain’s Quarters). Might it have something to do with outrageous Democrat earmarks? Their “all talk, no action” policy doesn’t play too well with the American people.

Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey says Congress doesn’t have time to find all the earmarks. Hundreds of citizens are offering to help sift through the Earmarks via Porkbusters (be sure to add your name) (Hat Tip: Instapundit.)

House Minority Leader John Boehner is saying they’ll go to war over earmarks, but I’m with Lorie Byrd. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Meanwhile Moderate Muslims show up as the member of the radical group CAIR plummets. I just wish they would do more and be active in opposing the terrorist elements of their sect.

Finally, President Bush goes to Congress to demand the passage of the amnesty bill, saying the current situation is unacceptable. If it’s unacceptable, why doesn’t he enforce the law? Instead he’s holding the security of our country hostage for a guest worker program to benefit corporate America.

The conservative grassroots is celebrating the death of the comprehensive immigration reform bill. This is a dangerous situation. Conservatives have spent much of the year angry, dispirited, and discontented: exactly the position we want them to be in. Anything close to victory or exultation must be avoided.

For starters, it falls to Democrats to return to the table and work out a compromise that still includes a path to citizenship, dare I say, amnesty! We must have the support of corporately-minded Republicans in the Senate and House. It may seem odd, but in this debate, we and big business Republicans both have a stake in this bill.

For us, it’s an opportunity to create a permanent voting block. For them, it’s an opportunity to please their corporate masters by providing them a steady supply of cheap labor. Everyone wins in the short term, and we will dominate politics for the next half century once the wave of poor and poorly educated immigrants join our nation’s citizenry.

It’s important that this be done now. If we can get a bill that includes amnesty through Congress, we will have a delightful time watching the GOP implode for the next election. The GOP will split in two and we will roll to the first of many victories in November, 2008.

Proper steps must be taken to insure this happens. First, have Republicans out front on this bill. Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC.) has claimed the mantle as amnesty’s best friend and I see no reason to seize it. Having him out front gives the anti-immigration forces a clear GOP face. Also when it comes time for the House to vote, our goal should be a vote of 217-216 in favor. Allow members who would be endangered by supporting the bill to vote “no” to lessen the impact to our party.

The goal is to insure that anti-immigration groups (and organized labor) can’t blame us for the bill. If you want to blame someone, it’s all the President’s fault. If we fail to get this done now and get a Democratic President to go along with Congress, we’ll have a hard time blaming the Republicans. This highlights a key lesson I learned in the early 1990s with the First President Bush’s tax increase. If you and a Republican agree on an unpopular measure: blame the measure on the Republican.

We do have a couple factors in our favor on this issue. First, we have those folks who will become lazy and apathetic and let the pressure off Washington now that the amnesty has been temporarily avoided. This will allow money and special interest groups to place the pressure back on to get a bill done.

Secondly, we’ll have those who will fail to realize they won a victory. Such was the case in the 2006 election. The House and Senate Republicans came to a stalemate over comprehensive immigration reform and many people in favor of enforcing the border became angry and pledged to never support another Republican.
Of course, these folks might have considered that building a fence was the most Congress could do for their cause with Bush in office. The resultant increase in the Democratic seats in Congress allowed amnesty to have a chance of coming into being.

Third, we’re lucky to have people who are unable to come up with a constructive solution. Resigning their party and pledging never to support a Republican again are just a few ways in which anti-immigration folks marginalize themselves and guarantee that.

Given the presence of such characteristics in the anti-immigrant crowd, our task of defeating nationalists is important, but not all that difficult. The anti-immigration people will take care of half the job for us.

Senator Crapo (R-Id.) continued to show the understanding that has been critical throughout this debate, while Senator Craig unfortunately more closely followed a pattern of siding with amnesty ahead of enforcement and insuring the law is followed.

Both men voted against cloture and stopped Reid’s attempt to ram the amnesty down the Senate’s throat.

Will we have additional Amendments, or is this thing truly dead as some have declared? Regardless, we have to be on the watch to fight tha amnesty wherever it might rear its head.

I’ve seen several sources that have quoted only the, “This is not a Democratic bill” portion. It most certainly is. The bill is sponsored by the Majority Leader with Co-Sponsors Senator Kennedy (D-Ma.), Senator Menedez (D-NJ.), Senator Salazar (D-Co.), and Senator Leahy (D-VT.) and despite talk about this being another failure for the President, it also can be called a failure for a Congress that has thankfully accomplished nothing.

Write, call, and fax your Congressmen and Senators — especially Republican ones — and let them know you will never vote for them or their party again should the immigration bill actually pass.
And let them know that you don’t particularly trust them on national security, spending, or taxes either, so they won’t wrongly believe those trump cards will still win the hand for them. Let them know if this isn’t scuttled — if the border isn’t secured first, verifiably, before any amnesty legislation passes — you will no longer vote for, volunteer for, or donate to any Republican candidate for any office ever again.

Not a dime, not a vote.

The Confederate Yankee adds in a letter to Senators Burr and Dole:

Tonight, I will tell my readers, conservative Republicans, fence-sitting conservative Democrats and moderates, that if the Senate passes the pending illegal alien amnesty bill, that I will formally abandon the Republican party, as it has abandoned me. I will then ask them to do the same. I will ask that they refuse to contribute to Republican campaigns. I will ask them to stay at home and refuse to vote for Republican candidates, or even consider voting for Democrats in protest in 2008.

And today, I will tell you that what is being proposed is plain and simple idiocy. Who are the opponents of amnesty, almost to a person? Republicans. What Confederate Yankee/Ace of Spades are saying is, “Let’s punish those people who oppose amnesty along with those who supported it. That will show them.” Indeed, it will. Electing a bunch of Democrats who are even worse than the Republicans to protest how bad the Republicans are will make people in Washington think America wants more liberalism and more amnesty.

Last year in the Republican House, the Amnesty Bill was deader than a door nail. There were thousands of e-mails forwarded telling us not to vote Republicans and now with GOP losses in the House and Speaker Pelosi in power, we’ll get the amnesty.

Do these people how to be constructive? How about throwing the bums out in the primary, taking some money and spending it on a Conservative Candidate for the White House like John Cox who is a stalwart against illegal immigration and the country’s fiscal mess. Heck, I give the Constitution Party more points for creativity and guts. Instead, it seems some people would rather just throw a hissy fit rather than actually doing something. Well folks, I’m in the “Do Something Caucus” and I’ll keep fighting for America, and for the time being that will continue to be in the GOP because that’s where the people who are fighting for this country’s values are. Yes, there are some amnesty sell-outs, a whole mess of them, but throwing a temper tantrum is not an option for me or anyone who expects to make a difference.

One of the charges against Compean and Ramos was that they failed to report the Feb. 17, 2005, incident as part of their efforts to cover it up. But a previously unpublished internal Homeland Security Department memo discloses that seven Border Patrol agents, including Compean and Ramos, as well as two supervisors were at the scene.

The presence of the two supervisors at the scene explains why the two didn’t file a report. They didn’t feel they had to since their supervisors — Robert Arnold, a supervisory Border Patrol agent, and Jonathan Richards, a field operations supervisor — were there.

Andy Ramirez, who has watched the case unfold as chairman of the group Friends of the Border Patrol, told World Net Daily: “The Border Patrol manual specifies that only a verbal report needs to be made of shooting incidents like this. All the agents in the field were discussing the shooting incident, including the supervisors. What more of a verbal report needed to be made?”

What more indeed. And why, for that matter, weren’t all nine charged with obstruction of justice and failing to report the incident? The feds say it was because only the two discharged their weapons. The DHS memo says all were equally culpable and that others tried to “conceal” evidence of the shooting.

Come on, Mr. President, do the right thing and pardon these men.

Now, one of these border patrol agents has been subjected to a beating:

“Nacho was assaulted Saturday night around 2200 by about five illegal immigrants. He has multiple and severe injuries. They put him in Isolation for now, he has not been allowed to see a doctor since Saturday. They were yelling at him in Spanish, Maten a la migra. which means kill the Border Patrol Agent.”

Another family member said Nacho was attacked after he fell asleep Saturday night. Assaulters went after him with repeated blows and kicks. Ramos suffered wounds to his back, shoulder, arms and head. There is concern that Agent Ramos was not given medical treatment after the incident and may not have received medical attention for up to 48 hours. An investigation is expected to be launched Tuesday.

This follows this heart breaking entry, from Ramos’ wife, Monica:

Hello, everyone. Today is a very sad day for my children and I. Today is Nacho’s birthday and we have not heard from him since the middle of last week.

My 7 year-old remembered this morning and asked if we could buy their dad a cake and still celebrate. We are hopeful that he will get an opportunity to call us tonight, because the boys would like to sing to him. I told him that we could celebrate and they could blow out his candles for him.

I am trying to make flight arrangements to go see him, but the tickets are running $1,300. for the 4 of us. I will do everything I can to make sure we get up there.

This action is one of the biggest travesties I’ve seen in my life. America’s Most Wanted told the public the truth on Saturday Night:

Some people make the ludicrous argument that I can’t speak out against illegal “immigration” because I am a Christian. I expect such ignorance from unbelievers, but it’s 10 times as irritating when Christians say it. “Ministering to all people” and spreading the Gospel are not in conflict with my opposition to giving criminal aliens the gift of American citizenship.

Whenever some Christian starts ragging on me about how “un-Christian” my views on illegal aliens are, I ask them to tell me what criticism they’ve leveled against illegal aliens who profess Christ. In anticipation of the sounds of chirping crickets, I give them an out: Hypothetically, what would you say to the illegal alien who professes Christ?

I don’t know of any debate where the terms have become so muddled we’re dancing around the issue rather than addressing it head on. Maybe we should grant “amnesty” for the word “amnesty” and simply talk about the effect of the policy. I sense a podcast coming on.

A friend of mine recently was surprised when I told him that I am not voting Republican this fall. “You are one of the most conservative people I know,” he said.

“Exactly,” I said, “and that is precisely why I am not voting Republican.” For me, illegal immigration has been the final straw. And the GOP’s recent decision to pull funding from Randy Graf’s campaign shows the writing on the wall: CONSERVATIVES, YOU ARE NOT WELCOME IN THE GOP. Of course, the GOP will take conservatives’ votes and money, but if a real conservative runs for office, he almost certainly will be shunned.

While I understand the frustration with the National Republican Congressional Committee not supporting Randy Graf, the decision was based on their view of Graf’s probability of victory. The NRCC is about electing Republicans and they’ll spend their money where it’s beneficial and most likely to make a difference. You can find numerous true Conservatives receiving national support in districts that they can win more easily in.

In addition, the actions of the NRCC merit punishing every Republican running for legislature, Senate, Governor, and statewide office? Seems a bit of an overblown response.

Mr. Calhoun, like many of those threatening to sit out the election or not support Republicans, provides no constructive solutions, just some hot-headed rhetoric about GOP failures. Mr. Calhoun goes on to write:

In the 1950s, when our country was under invasion, President Eisenhower (via “Operation Wetback”) responded with troops, and deported over 1 million illegals in less than a year. Yet President Bush says he is unable. Rather, he is unwilling. If Bush had engaged in this pandering to illegals in the 1950s, he would have been impeached and tried for treason.

Operation Wetback was controversial in the 1950s. Even Michelle Malkin and the vast majority of those of us who believe in border control don’t advocate that, but rather attrition as the solution. Then again, we may not be conservative enough for Mr. Calhoun.

Whie Drew’s right that we can enforce the border, I think one has to be clear that Operation Wetback can’t be repeated. Those were different times. We also fought a war back then without people calling for us to withdrawal because of the amazing discovery that people die in war. The answer is deportation when law enforcement catches people and attrition for the rest.

Camacho is wrong on illegal immigration, but he’s well meaning. At the end of the article after discussing all of Camacho’s contributions to our community, Dan Popkey says:

In the Gospel of Matthew, Christians are urged to welcome the stranger.

What fascinates me about the political left is this. They tell us that church and state are to be entirely seperate. Dan Popkey is a huge proponent of secularization and doesn’t want the 10 commandments in the park, but a portion of the Gospel of Matthew he likes, that’s what we call a political argument. Yet, they can use (or misuse) scriptures to suit their purposes. Matthew 25 governs the conduct of individuals towards their neighbors, not the idea that a nation cannot have borders. One could also apply John 10:1

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

So, someone who comes in illegally is up to no good. At the very least, they’re trespassers. Nowhere in the Bible is a nation forbidden from having borders.

Yes, there’s bigotry in our past, but the run of our history has largely followed that guidance. Let us again open our hearts to newcomers who enrich our lives and make us a better people.

I think this is a huge problem with the open borders crowd. Their argument is weak, so they have to resort to calling their opponents racist and bigots. The issue here is not an argument that immigrants can’t contribute to our culture. They can. The issue isn’t whether immigration can be a good thing. It often is.

The issues are two fold. First, will we protect our border? Second, is a nation without borders and without language a nation at all?

These are the issues, and its about time they were honestly addressed.

Charles Hurt in the Washington Times writes of the madness of the Senate Immigration Bill:

The Senate immigration reform bill would allow for up to 193 million new legal immigrants — a number greater than 60 percent of the current U.S. population — in the next 20 years, according to a study released yesterday. 

  "The magnitude of changes that are entailed in this bill — and are largely unknown — rival the impact of the creation of Social Security or the creation of the Medicare program," said Robert Rector, senior policy analyst at the Heritage Foundation who conducted the study.

Although the legislation would permit 193 million new immigrants in the next two decades, Mr. Rector estimated that it is more likely that about 103 million new immigrants actually would arrive in the next 20 years.

Sen. Jeff Sessions, Alabama Republican who conducted a separate analysis that reached similar results, said Congress is "blissfully ignorant of the scope and impact" of the bill, which has bipartisan support in the Senate and has been praised by President Bush.

    "This Senate is not ready to pass legislation that so significantly changes our future immigration policy," he said yesterday. "The impact this bill will have over the next 20 years is monumental and has not been thought through." 

The 614-page "compromise" bill — hastily cobbled together last month by Republican Sens. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska and Mel Martinez of Florida — would give illegal aliens who have been in the U.S. two years or longer a right to citizenship. Illegals who have been here less than two years would have to return to their home countries to apply for citizenship. 

Although that "amnesty" would be granted to about 10 million illegals, the real growth in the immigrant population would come later.

    As part of the bill, the annual flow of legal immigrants allowed into the U.S. would more than double to more than 2 million annually. In addition, the guest-worker program in the bill would bring in 325,000 new workers annually who could later apply for citizenship.

That population would grow exponentially from there because the millions of new citizens would be permitted to bring along their extended families. Also, Mr. Sessions said, the bill includes "escalating caps," which would raise the number of immigrants allowed in as more people seek to enter the U.S.

    "The impact of this increase in legal immigration dwarfs the magnitude of the amnesty provisions," said Mr. Rector, who has followed Congress for 25 years. He called the bill "the most dramatic piece of legislation in my experience." 

    Mr. Rector based his numerical projection on the number of family members that past immigrants have sponsored.

    Immigration into the U.S. would become an "entitlement," Mr. Sessions said. "The decision as to who may come will almost totally be controlled by the desire of the individuals who wish to immigrate to the United States rather than by the United States government."

     One of the most alarming aspects of the bill, opponents say, is that it eliminates a long-standing policy of U.S. immigration law that prohibits anyone from gaining permanent status here who is considered "likely to become a public charge," meaning welfare or other government subsidy.

    This change is particularly troublesome because the bill also slants legal immigration away from highly skilled and highly educated workers to the unskilled and uneducated, who are far more likely to require public assistance. In addition, adult immigrants will be permitted to bring along their parents, who would eventually be eligible for Social Security even though they had never paid into it.

      Mr. Rector estimated that the eventual cost of the bill to the American taxpayer would be about $50 billion per year.

This is nuts, totally bananas. Our country cannot handle 100 million new immigrants in the next 20 years. We cannot take the idea of caring for the world’s poor and elderly. We’re not the world’s welfare state, and we cannot assimilate that many immigrants into our society that short period of time.

If the Congress were setting to totally annihlate American culture, it could not do much worse than this bill before them.

Like the shuffling zombies in Dawn Of The Dead our august Senate will be taking up the issue of amnesty for illegal immigrants again…

WASHINGTON – Republicans moved Wednesday to have the Senate spend most of the next two weeks reconsidering an immigration bill that faltered just before Easter over whether to let millions of illegal immigrants remain in the United States.

“We’re ready to start the process,” Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said Wednesday after emerging from a meeting with a few other Republicans in Majority Leader Bill Frist’s office.

Frist, R-Tenn., said h’e would continue talks with Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. He added, however, that debate would begin early next week on amendments even though he and Reid have no agreement on how to proceed with the bill.

Time to pick up the phone folks, our elected zombies are hell bent on doing the very thing they know 80% of the American people don’t want.

This is frightening…

The House in December passed an enforcement-only immigration bill with no provision for legalizing illegal immigrants. Senate Democrats have expressed fears that protections for illegal immigrants will be sacrificed in the negotiations.

“Protections for illegal immigrants?” It’s been a while but I believe I’m going to have to dust off Jake’s Ham Sammich rule…Illegal immigrants in this country have no rights other than access to a delicious and well prepared Ham Sammich and then a swift kick in the ass as we wave buh-bye to them as they cross our border Southward, of course we can talk about an ice cold fizzy soda.

Lone wacko mentions, and I will as well that at least they manage to include that word that burns their lying tongues like a thousand suns, illegal! So kudos for that I suppose.

And then there’s this…

Frist and Reid have said for weeks they are negotiating to renew debate on the bill, but there has been little progress even after three Roman Catholic bishops visited both leaders.

You know the Catholic church pulled this crap once before and almost got kicked out of the country. I think maybe it’s time to talk about that again. Oh, I have no problems with Catholics, just the leadership.

“I think there’s a general consensus on our side not to try to kill the bill, but to try to see us get a result,” said Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, who participated in the meeting with Frist.

Will any result do Sen. Conryn, or is it preferable that it be one that really piss off the American people?

Tom Tancredo was on Michael Savage last night, he mentoned how extraordinary it was that the Senate was so dead set on providing amnesty when they knew it was massively unpopular. I think it’s time to consider replacing this government with something more responsive to the American people.

Pick up the phone folks, I still believe this is Kabuki theatre, let me count the ways. The house wants to go home to it’s constituents and say they passed a tough immigration bill (HR 4437), while knowing full well that the Senate would gut it and render it less than useless. The Senate is protecting everyone’s access to big business donations.

Big business wants the status quo. If illegals receive amnesty and we were to actually enforce our laws they would lose access to their cheap slave labor, can’t have that don’cha know.

Still, on the principle of the thing, call these sumzabitches and let’em know you possess 6′ of scratchy hemp rope.

Should it be cheaper for illegal immigrants to attend U.S. colleges than for U.S. citizens? Yes, according to lawmakers in California, Illinois, Kansas, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and Washington.

Illegal immigrants residing in these states are eligible for in-state tuition rates at state colleges and universities. These rates afford a significant cost savings compared to the tuition rates charged to out-of-state students. On average, an out-of-state student pays three times as much in tuition costs as an in-state student to attend the same school. In some states this means an out-of-state student pays as much as $40,000 more over four years.

In-state tuition for illegals is an increasingly popular concept among lawmakers. At least 20 additional states are considering legislation that would grant in-state tuition rates to illegal immigrants. Some U.S. senators are even considering extending in-state tuition for illegals to all fifty states. They’re doing so in clear defiance of congressional intent to make such preferential treatment unlawful.

And what leads to this kind of disrepect for law? Political corruption, and greed.

It’s time to put a stop to this disrespect for law and order. To do so, we need to find good politicians whom we can support for local elections, who can then in turn do what they can to appoint honest lawmakers. Otherwise, our tax dollars are going to end up being misused for a considerable amount of lawbreaking.

While Minuteman civilian patrols are keeping an eye out for illegal border crossers, the U.S. Border Patrol is keeping an eye out for Minutemen — and telling the Mexican government where they are.

According to three documents on the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Web site, the U.S. Border Patrol is to notify the Mexican government as to the location of Minutemen and other civilian border patrol groups when they participate in apprehending illegal immigrants — and if and when violence is used against border crossers.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman confirmed the notification process, describing it as a standard procedure meant to reassure the Mexican government that migrants’ rights are being observed.

Nothing like notifying the enemy, not that out illegal loving president would ever say that out loud.

Martinez said Mexico’s official perception of the civilian groups is that they are vigilantes, a belief the Border Patrol hoped to allay by entering into the cooperative agreement.

One of the documents on the Web site, “Actions of the Mexican Government in Relation to the Activities of Vigilante Groups,” states that Mexican consulate representatives stay in close contact with Border Patrol chiefs to ensure the safety of migrants trying to enter the U.S., those being detained and the actions of all “vigilantes” along the border.

“The Mexican consul in Presidio also contacted the chief of the Border Patrol in the Marfa Sector to solicit his cooperation in case they detect any activity of `vigilantes,’ and was told to immediately contact the consulate if there was,” according to the document.

The document also describes a meeting with San Diego Border Patrol sector chief Darryl Griffen.

“(Griffen) said that the Border Patrol will not permit any violence or any actions contrary to the law by the groups, and he is continuously aware of (the volunteer organizations’) operations,” according to the document. “Mr. Griffen reiterated to the undersecretary his promise to notify the General Consul right away when the vigilantes detain or participate in the detention of any undocumented Mexicans.”

Nice of our government agencies to work against effective citizen law enforcement.

TJ Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council, a union representing more than 10,000 Border Patrol agents, said agents have complained for years about the Mexican consulate’s influence over the agency.

“It worries me (that the Mexican government) seems to be unduly influencing our enforcement policies. That’s not a legitimate role for any foreign nation,” Bonner said, though he added, “It doesn’t surprise me.”

Border Patrol agents interviewed by the Daily Bulletin said they have been asked to report to sector headquarters the location of all civilian volunteer groups, but to not file the groups’ names in reports if they spot illegal immigrants.

“Last year an internal memo notified all agents not to give credit to Minuteman volunteers or others who call in sightings of illegal aliens,” said one agent, who spoke on the condition he not be identified. “We were told to list it as a citizen call and leave it at that. Many times, we were told not to go out to Minuteman calls.”

Can you sense the truculence here? Though our government refuses to do their constitutionally mandated job, how dare citizens make them look bad and call attention to that inconvenient fact?

We need a new government folks, clearly our current government feels no responsibility to the very people it was constituted to protect. The very people who put them in office to serve them.

How dare they put American citizens at risk to keep MEXICO happy, why do we care what Mexico thinks? Since when do we allow criminals to determine how they will be dealt with? Make no mistake, Mexico is the ultimate bad guy here, and our government is the accomplice to their criminal behavior.

So since our government has thrown in with criminals why would we expect them to do right by us? It’s really quite breathtaking when you stop and think about it, our elected officials have thrown over law abiding citizens in favor of criminals (drug cartels and illegal aliens) and a criminal enterprise masquerading as a government (Mexico, et al.). How can we expect them to uphold the law when they are so fundamentally compromised?

Answer, we can’t. We need a whole new government, this one has made clear where it’s loyalties lay and here’s a hint, it’s not with the American people. I think when a governement puts criminal aliens above the very citizens it is supposed to serve you can say that it has ceased to serve any positive function and needs to be swept away.

And just to add another layer to this crapcake think about this, this isn’t something you can fix by voting the bums out. For every politician in Washington there are scores of aides and career bureaucrats who actually operate the levers of government, how do you get rid of them, the entrenched, unseen hand that guide and shape policy.

This actually scares me, I wonder how much longer this country can exist if our duly elected government is willing to fight the people on whether or not to enforce the sovereignty of our borders.

I’ve said this before but I think it bears repeating. I no longer believe our government is capable of dealing with the problem of the illegal invasion sweeping through our country. It’s not a question of can’t, but won’t. They are so compromised by big business money and ethnic grievance groups as to be fundamentally unable to respond to this threat.

I wish I had a pat answer to this, I don’t. Something needs to change, and I guarantee something will change, what I can’t see is how this changes without violence.

This just in from the Minuteman Blog:

Sara Carter, a reporter with the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, reports today that she found documentation on Mexican government websites that show higher ups in the United States Border Patrol have been tipping off the corrupt Mexican government as to the locations of the Minutemen along the border.

This article does not report information told to the MCDC media offices that the Border Patrol chiefs have also been passing along intelligence reports to the government of Mexico on the activities of Minutemen not only at the borders, but in locations such as Utah, Nevada, Illinois, Massachusetts and Tennessee. Perhaps a follow-up story is coming tomorrow or an over zealous editor took the info out?

Part of a report distributed last August to the Mexican government from Border Patrol bureaucrats read over the phone to the MCDC media offices contained not only numbers (estimated chapter membership) of Minutemen in Illinois, but a statement on their activities and that they didn’t seem to know any politicians there, indicating that the Illinois Minutemen didn’t yet have any political clout.

That is not a report on the location of Minutemen at the border, but political intelligence from our government to a foreign nation about the activities of American citizens petitioning our own government for redress of grievances.

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps media offices will contact the reporter to inquire about copies of the documents and the timing on a follow-up story with the reports to the Mexican government of activities of Minutemen in INTERIOR states, as if reports of our locations in the border states weren’t bad enough.

This just ups the ante in my opinion. Now our government is spying on it’s own people and providing that information willingly to a foreign power? You have got to be kidding me!

How dare they, how DARE THEY!! This is truly beyond the pale, out government is providing aid and comfort to what can only be charitably called an enemy. Let’s recall: Their troops cross our border with impunity, their generals are sent to the border regions to amass a healthy retirement in cartel bribes, Mexican consuls and consulates actively work to bring this country down, our border patrol agents face well armed drug smugglers aided by the Mexican military every day, and now we find evidence that our government isn’t merely incompetent, but is actively aiding it’s partner in crime.

I referenced above my belief that our government acts as an accomplice to Mexico’s lawbreaking, isn’t this incontrovertable proof of that?

What excuse could they muster that would comfort you when our government conducts surveillance on it’s law abiding citizens for the purpose of handing it off to foreign governments? In an alleged time of war no less.

I am horrified and sickened by this. I hope you are as well. Now let’s have a conversation on how we remove this corrupt and cowardly government root and branch and replace it with something that isn’t selling out it’s own citizens to the highest bidder. Something that represents Americans, not Mexicans and Mexico!

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — This famously liberal city is serving notice that illegal aliens are welcome, even while Congress is considering tough new penalties. Police won’t harass you. Education and health care are available.
Here’s the hitch: You probably can’t afford to live here.
In 1985, when Cambridge first declared itself a “sanctuary city,” rent control kept apartments affordable.
Today, however, Cambridge no longer has rent control; cheap apartments were turned into luxury condominiums, and the city — home of Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology — is among the most expensive places to live in the United States. The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment is $1,400 a month.
So, while the city renews its open-arms declaration — as other U.S. cities are doing — it’s not exactly a magnet for new immigrants, particularly illegal ones.
“Like anybody else, we look for places we can afford,” said Elena Letona, a naturalized citizen from El Salvador and executive director of Centro Presente, a Cambridge nonprofit that spearheaded the 1980s sanctuary effort and is backing the new push.
The Cambridge City Council is set to vote today to reaffirm its sanctuary status, which instructs police and other agencies not to inquire about a person’s immigration status when providing government services. The proposal would establish an immigrant rights and citizenship commission to “ensure the equal status of immigrants in education, employment, health care, housing, political, social and legal spheres.”

Uh oh. It sounds as though the local police are being harnessed and prevented from maintaining law and order. Not good. When things like this happen, it sets a bad example, and it makes a mockery out of the authorities.

Luckily, there seems to be some movement to protest these kind of corrupt activities:

But the movement has sparked a backlash. In Phoenix, a group called Protect Our City is collecting signatures for a ballot initiative to require police cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
An “anti-sanctuary” bill signed into law last week in Colorado would deny state funds to cities that discourage or prevent police from working with federal immigration authorities.

That’s good to know, and it’s encouraging.
