Chris Matthews Failing Logic
Posted by Adam Graham in : Presidential Race 2008From Newsbusters, a summary of a Chris Matthews show panel:
So, let’s recap. As a vice presidential candidate in 2008, Palin is:
- “an object of ridicule”
- “the biggest drag on John McCain”
- “long-term minus”
- “not ready”
- “doesn’t have that much experience”
- “not a serious choice”
- a “shallow” and “cynical” choice
- “the absolute worst strategy”
Yet, the day after the election is over:
- Palin is “the first in line to run for 2012″
- She “certainly has a claim to” run in 2012
- “there are things she’s very good at”
- “It’s Sarah Palin versus Huckabee”
- “she’s the most popular person in the Republican Party right now”
- “she’s a compelling figure”
- “she’s got a lot of fans out there”
Wow! Talk about what a difference a day makes.
According to all these folks, she’s unqualified to be vice president on November 4. But on November 5, if Obama wins, she’s totally qualifed to start her 2012 presidential run.

Apprently you didn’t watch it very carefully. If you had, you would habe understood that what was being said was that she was popular with the Republican social conservative base, but that wasn’t the part of the electorate that John McCain needed to win the election. They also said that while she may be the most popular Republican that has nothing to do with her qualifications. She is unqualified today and she will be unqualified on November 5th.

When you say someone’s the frontrunner, you’re kind of implying some level of qualification

If you really believe that, then you are saying that Barack Obama is more qualified than John McCain. Welcome to the fold.

Not quite. There’s a difference between saying someone’s the frontrunner before the election and saying it four years + out from the election.
