Christian Comic Strips Coming to Newspapers Near You
Posted by Adam Graham in : ChristianityThe New York Times reports on two fairly new Christian comics.
I think the latest, “Heaven’s Love Thrift Shop” was a smart move by the syndicators. It’s a refreshing change from the general policy of newspapers which seem to have the same comics wherever you go. If you’ve got a strong Christian market in your area, it makes sense. This might also be an effort to stop the decline in circulation.
As the Times points out, religion is nothing new in the comics, as Charles Schultz, Bill Keene, and Johnny Hart used it occassionally it in their comics. While the newspapers love to point to the controversy of some of Hart’s drawings, Schultz talked about God as much if not moreso, and made the most popular Christmas special of all time with Christ in Christmas.
I don’t think Heaven’s Thrift Shops will save America’s Red state newspapers, but, just like a bowl of Chicken Noodle soup, it couldn’t hurt. And who knows what someone might learn along the way.

[...] 4 More Appointments to the Blogger Cabinet Weekend Open Trackbacks Well, we continue naming the Conservative Blogger cabinet. Let’s begin at Health and Human Services with Christina Dunigan, a woman who cares about the health of women and is someone who won’t kowtow to the abortion industry. Over at the Labor Department is Basil, because nobody works harder on a wide variety of blog projects, including headlines and daily trackback parties. (Now if he could work a little harder at linking to Linkfest Haven.) David at Third World County is my pick for Agriculture Secretary, as somewhere Third World County there has to be some farms. Clayton Cramer is my choice for the Interior Department because he’s been blogging a lot about his work on the interior of his house. Well, that leaves five more appointments, which I’ll announce on Tuesday. Here (for those of you keeping score at home) are the other choices: Secretary of HUD: Jo Secretary of Transportation: Joel Kennedy Secretary of Energy: Jay Tea Secretary of Education: Random Yak Secretary of Veteran’s Affairs: Cao’s Blog Secretary of Homeland Security: Michelle Malkin White House Press Secretary: Don Surber Welcome to today’s Open Trackback party: 1) Post about anything that’s in good taste.
