Christmas and the People We Ought to Be

Posted by Adam Graham in : Christianity

One of the most amazing statements that appears in nearly every version of the Christmas Carol is Scrooge’s pledge to keep Christmas all the year.

I suppose today if we imagine Christmas every day, most media creations imagine it as a long continual feast of gluttony and greed.

Some people when they look at Christmas only think of a rash of Presents and materialism, but I’ve seen  another side in gifts to children who would have no presents otherwise, efforts for the elderly and the poor. The good being done this time of year is overwhelming. People are spending tons of money on those who are truly in need. One lady worked overtime at work, so she could afford to by Christmas presents for poor children.

It’s a remarkable thing. Amidst all the commercialism, the birth of Christ lays out the standard for goodness and love to our fellow man.  Sometimes, we think goodness is only for Christmas, but it’s not. Real needs live on long after Christmas is gone.

Let’s remember this time of the birth of Christ and let his goodness and grace reign in us, not just on December 25th, but the whole year round. Let us celebrate Christmas by honoring Christ through deed and word. For that is what it is best about Christmas.

If Christmas is too commercial, then it’s your own fault. No one else can make it so. Not ads on tv, or Santa Claus, or stores bringing out the decorations too early. None of that can take away from Christmas. Unless that’s all you take away from Christmas.

Merry Christmas, Adam. Have a great holiday.
