Controlling Gays Strike Back at Patty Labelle
Posted by Adam Graham in : ChristianityHat Tip to Pam Spaulding on this, but some homosexual bloggers are furious about Patti Labelle making an appearance at the Reverend Eddie Long’s church:
We cannot accept this kind of behavior from individuals who purport to be our allies. Patti should not embrace the pain that Eddie Long and his church have caused the thousands of Gay men she has touched if she considers herself an “Ally.” Patti needs to be checked. We must let her know what it cost to embrace our enemies!! We must let her know that a more accepting church is a more acceptable place for her to promote her new album…
Girlcott/Boycott! I know it hurts… We all love Patti. But this is not acceptable. Do Not Buy Her New Album and Do Not Go See Her Movie Preaching to the Choir. Tell your friends not to buy it. If you’ve already bought it, burn it and return it to the store and get your money back. If you must have it, download it. Do not put your money into the pockets of someone who would support the homophobic attacks of Eddie Long.
Now wait a second, aren’t these the same same folks who attacked the AFA for calling for a boycott of the Book of Daniel? Oh wait, I forgot liberals have another standard to live by. Silly me.
What this shows on the homosexual side is a real controlling attitude. You want to support the Homosexual Community, great! Just let the more extreme activists tell you where you can go and whom you may associate with or else. (Before you visit anyone or praise anyone, you have to make sure their 100% pro-homosexual rights.) Sounds more like a controlling cult than anything else to me.
I find it a move that’s a guaranteed shot in the foot. They’ve got a limited supply of friends in the African American Community, so they figure why not alienate one? The logic (or lack thereof) utterly astounds me.
Of course, there has to be a certain bit of hypocrisy by Patti Labelle. A church visit sounds like its more marketing than substantive faith in Christ. As Ms. Labelle plays the charmelon, behaving one way in one circle and another in a 2nd circle. Great show business, but lousy religion.

WHAT? As you may recall I was banned from Pam’s site. I wish I could have set her straight on this one.
Patti Labelle happens to be one of the most positive and gay friendly people I have ever met. I witnessed Patti help two male singer/song writers get a contract with a record company. The two men had been in my office a few days before Patti was scheduled to perform in the area. The men left me a tape which I passed on to a friend in the business. He then called Patti and she invited one of the men to perform onstage with her. She made some calls for the men as well. I have heard of other instances in which she has been very helpful to gay performers.
On many occasions I have called Pam on the false stories she has featured on her blog . She has little regard for the truth and sees everything from her skewed perspective. I recall a story in which she unfairly characterized the judge in a setencing. It took a family member of the victim to set the record straight. Pam remained silent after yet another story she got wrong. She also tends to fall for every fake scam that comes by.
Patti Labelle is a strong friend to the gay community. I would put her in a category with Cindy Lauper and Liza in that regard. As usual Pam attacks the wrong people. In this instance she is claiming guilt by association. I guarantee you that on more than one occasion people have chastised Patti for support of gay issues and performers. I would not be surprised if Patti looked past Eddie Long and chose to reach out to the members of the church in the best way she knew how.Patti LaBelle and antigay does not compute.I’m confident that most gays will understand this.

I thinks he’s well aware of Labelle done for the gay community, but Labelle’s on the naughty list for associating with someone they don’t like. A good way to lose friends and fail to influence people.

Imagine if we did that? I suppose we shouldn’t give money to any woman’s shelter that had a connection with a progressive group. If I stopped listening to music by artists with a left wing connection I’d be listening to … Christian music. UGH. Sorry. I couldn’t resist tweaking your nose.

I guess liberal and loyalty don’t mix.
