Cracking Down on Trackback Spam Mid-Week Open Trackbacks

Posted by Adam Graham in : Open Trackbacks

Unrestricted Trackbacks will be allowed on Adam’s blog for this mid-week Trackback party. The result? You guessed it. Spam. This blog, with more than 3,000 pages, has thousands upon thousands of spam trackbacks. My wife and I have spent several days deleting trackback spam and it just keeps building up.

The reason I’ve kept Trackbacks on the site is that I love Trackback parties. However, the spam has become so overwhelming that something needs to be done. So effective next week a new process for Trackbacks will be put in place. We’ll continue to hold Open TB parties here at Adam’s blog, but they’ll be a new process that will stamp out the spammers. Here it is.

When an unregistered user comes to the blog, they’ll see a box like this:

Enter the characters as shown in the box and something like this should appear

This is a Trackback URL that’s good one time only so that we can seperate humans from spammer bots. For you, the readers of the blog, this will mean less spam on posts.

Next week, the process changes and I know it can be a little annoying, but please help us take a bite out of Trackback spam.

Now, onto the Party. First, the rules:

1) Post about anything that’s in good taste. No porn, no spam, no profanity.
2) Send me a trackback of any tasteful post you want and as soon as I check my blog, I’ll update this post with your link provided you link back to this thread. If your software won’t allow you to send trackbacks, just use the Wizbang Standalone Pinger

3) Deadline is Wednesday at 11:00 PM MT. Further trackbacks won’t be posted after that time.

For your convenience here’s today’s link and the trackback:

Below are other great parties:

CFBA Book Review: The Longing Season

I had the pleasure of reading Christine Schaub’s latest novel in the Music of the Heart series, The Longing Season. Surprisingly fast-paced for a historical novel, this is the first novel I’ve made it all the way through in 2-3 days in recent memory. And there’s really not much to dislike about this one.

Civilian courts in the past have ruled on the free speech rights of commissioned officers. Under the UCMJ they are pretty restricted.

And Now For Something Completely Different.

Bloggers spend a lot of time blogging. We spend a lot of time reading news and reading blogs, and we spend a lot of time thinking.
Perhaps too much at times.
And then, occasionally, something happens to put a bit of perspective back into the mix.
