Dear Congressman Simpon: Thanks for Supporting the Broadcaster Freedom Act

Posted by Adam Graham in : Dear Congressman Simpson

I’ve raked my Congressman over the coles a few times for his economic liberalism, but on most non-economic issues he gets it right. Unable to compete in the fair market in Talk Radio, Democrats dream of reinstating the fairness  doctrine to silence voices like Rush Limbaugh and other conservatives. This leads to Congressman Pence’s bill, “The Broadcaster Freedom Act” which would bar the FCC from implementing the fairness doctrine, a proposal that would require broadcasters to give equal time anytime anyone expresses a point of view. This would require a radio station that airs 3 hours of Rush Limbaugh to air 3 hours of a liberal host that would rate below a test pattern. Democrats would love to shove conservative talk off the air and better off to do it through an unaccounable government commission so that the Democrat Congress’ fingerprints weren’t on it.  Let’s not them do it. First check this list of Congressmen who have signed a discharge petition to force the bill to floor. Then, if your Congressman hasn’t signed it, e-mail them or call the switchboard and ask for their office at (202)225-3121. If they (like my Congressman) have signed the discharge petition, send them a thank you note like the one below.

Dear Congressman Simpson,

Thank you for signing the discharge petition for H.R. 694 which would allow consideration of the Broadcaster Freedom Act (HR 2905). I appreciate you standing for freedom of speech.

I hope your colleagues in the House will join you in backing this important measure. We don’t need the government telling us what we can listen to on the radio.

Again, thank you for your leadership,
Adam Graham
