Delicious News for Those Who Dont’ Care About America
Posted by Adam Graham in : PoliticsA woman called into Rush Limbaugh ecstatic about the great news. She said she was so nervous before but now was pleased by the “delicious news” Rush had brought.
What was this news? It actually came from Matt Drudge originally, but Rush was sharing it with his audience. John Kerry has been alleged to have had an adulterous affair with a woman and then urged her to flee the country.
While, if true, the allegations raise serious questions about Senator Kerry’s character, this is certainly nothing to rejoice about. The disgrace of a United States Senator, the opposition party’s front-runner for the presidency is not something to celebrate.
It would say a lot about how far we’ve fallen as a nation when we allow men like Kerry to serve in the Senate. We would once again find ourselves giving children unfortunate lessons on sex and sexuality. We would see our country becoming a dirty joke again. Wouldn’t it be delicious?
We would see the presidential campaign shifting from the issue of who do we trust to protect our homeland to a discussion of the tawdry tales of John Forbes Kerry. We would be subject to constant lectures to how puritanical the idea is that our President have control of his own hormones. is Wouldn’t it be delicious?
All this excitement is over an unconfirmed allegation. We have conservatives out there rushing to judgment when they haven’t seen one shred of evidence, just a rumor on Drudge. I remember the fiasco with Clinton’s “black love child” in the Enquirer. They tested the DNA and the child wasn’t his, but it went around Conservative circles for six years only to be proven false.
There are people on the right and left who will do anything to win. They’re gleeful when they find something they can jump on. Take a look at the left on President Bush’s guard record and you see the same thing. There are people who don’t want to win on the issues, who honestly would like to win elections “ugly” by destroying a person’s character and reputation. Take the rejoicing Limbaugh listener in contrast to George Washington’s 22nd rule of civility, “Show not yourself glad at the Misfortune of another though he were your enemy.”
America depends on people who will not jump in the gutter or sling mud to win, nor rejoices at the site of their opponent’s downfall and public exposure. It is not easy, but it is the right thing to do. We must be circumspect and not rush off to the scene of every apparent tragic failing of a Presidential candidate. It’s the only decent thing to do, and we will not win this race in the gutter.
