Democrats: The Party of Gasoline

Had a Letter to the Editor in Saturday’s Statesman:

If you want to see where the policies of the Idaho Democrats would lead our state, take a look at California. Idaho Democrats want more services, and California offers services galore. Idaho Democrats get their campaign money to do the bidding of the teachers’ union and other public employees’ unions. In California, public employees’ unions reign supreme. Teachers are the highest paid, and prison guards retire with a pension that would make members of Congress envious. The result: a near state of bankruptcy and high taxes that crush that state’s economy.

George Washington said that government is like fire: a dangerous servant and a fearful master. And like an uncontrolled fire, uncontrolled government will never of its own volition say, “Enough.” No matter how much money our state pours into education, no matter how much we pay our teachers, the Idaho Education Association will never declare we spend enough or that we pay our teachers enough.

Democrats and some Republicans seem blissfully unaware or unconcerned of the danger as they try to pour more gasoline on the fire of government with unnecessary spending. The choice is clear: our liberties or the interests of unions that are bankrupting California.
