Dream On, Dems

Sorry, to disappoint you, but no. It’s not going to happen. Unlike the Democrats of Idaho, Republicans are a diverse party and we have many differences of opinion. That’s what happens when there’s diversity. There are places we handle these disagreements: the primaries and convention.

After the convention is concluded, we will go forth. Regardless of who wins the Chairmanship, that will change nothing in the way I approach activism. It will not dampen my enthusiasm for the re-election of Bill Sali, the elections of Becky Young, Elizabeth Allen Hodge, Julie Ellsworth, or Christ Troupis. It will not lessen my desire to see Jim Risch as our United States Senator, nor will it make any less eager to insure that we once again have an all-Republican Commission in Ada County.

I’m concerned by the suggestion that our Political Parties be free from any disagreements. This led to a rush to force the end of the GOP nomination process in March, and during the last couple of months, there were constant calls for Mrs. Clinton to quit before Obama had secured the nomination.

Our Republic requires deliberation. And given that in most other countries, each of our two political parties has people in it that would form 3 or 4 political parties in other countries, there are going to be divisions. In all cases, there’s a time for those divisions. The time to deal with the divisions in the Idaho GOP is this weekend. On the issues that divide us, we’ll either resolve them or agree to disagree about them so that we can fight about them after the elections.

Regardless, Democrats shouldn’t worry. Whatever happens, we’ll be focused on defeating them with plenty of time to spare.

Agree completely. Families get together at Thanksgiving and despite their differences they get together and celebrate Christmas and look forward to the New Year with resolutions in hand. Republicans are organized, funded, and enthusiastic about electing their ticket in 2008.
