Elvis is Not God
Posted by Adam Graham in : ChristianityToday marks the 30th Anniversary of Elvis’ death. I understand, he was a great performer, I understand he was the icon of a generation. It’s not inappropriate to note the day, but come on:
“Sometimes it seems like it was only yesterday he was gone but it’s been 30 years already. I think about him every night and I think about him every day and talk to him every day,” said Lynn Russert.
I’ve heard of praying to saints, but this is nothing like that. This is blind celebrity worship. Elvis was quite flawed and really a tragic figure.
Perhaps, this is proof that Chesterton was right when he said, “when men will not worship God, it does not mean that that they worship nothing. They will worship anything.” Our culture finds all kinds of people to give worshipful adoration to.
On another note, it sad to say that many Christians cannot say that we think of God every day and every night and talk to him every day.
