Fancy That: Enforcing the Law Works

Posted by Adam Graham in : Illegal Immigration

The Arizona Republic reports that with a new state law passed giving sanctions to illegal immigrants. They’re either clearing out of Arizona for states that are more tolerant of law breaking or heading back to Mexico, thus proving correct those like John Cox, who argue that the key is employer enforcement.

Of course, the state is left in a jam as they have a large illegal working population that they depend on. This also drives home the point that once we do get the border under control, we have to take a serious look at legal immigration and begin letting people into the country who’ve been waiting. One of the problems with illegal immigration is that it masks our legitimate need for new, legal citizens. I can imagine some better jobs in construction being taken by Americans who are stuck in lower paying positions in jobs like fast food. Employers will find American citizens to fill many higher paying jobs and if there’s still labor need (and there probably will be), that’s where we can increase legal immigration.
