For Crying Out Loud

Over at Stop the ACLU, Kender writes:

Joe Biden sniffled and choked back tears today in a press conference. Real men who see this video will throw up a little bit in the back of their mouth. That’s what real men do. Sissified liberal wankers will say “Wow that shows such sensitivity.” Sensitivity is liberal code speak for sissified actions undertaken by creatures born men but emasculated by liberal hateful women.

Real men don’t cry in public, especially when they say “thank you” for some honor bestowed on them.

Wow! With all due respect, I’ve got to grasp the level of ignorance here. First of all, Biden wasn’t speaking at a Press Conference, he was talking to the Delaware Democratic Convention delagation and Biden was thanking them. I watched the speech and I actually found it moving.

The way he told it, the folks in the Delaware Democratic Party helped him and his family through his life’s difficult situations. Those situations go beyond merely difficult. In 1972, he found himself 30 years old with two boys to raise on his own after his wife and daughter died in an accident. In 1989, he had to deal with two life-threatening brain aneurisms that kept him out of the Senate seven months. From what I could gather, some of these people had been supporting Biden for 36 years, and he was acknowledging their support and standing by him, not only in politics but through all that life threw at him for 36 years.

I’m not an Obama/Biden supporter, but I don’t begrudge the Senator a cry when talking about the people who stood by him through truly tough times. It was an unscripted moment (unlike everything else you see at the Democratic Convention)  and a refreshing acknowledgment of who actually makes it possible for elected officials to serve.
