Getting Swindelled

I’ve got a new word for us today. When a nominee for appointed office is defeated or forced out by partisan hack sharks, we say they’ve been Borked. Yet, in the 21st Century, we’re seeing something new from our friends on the left.

In the late Boise City Council race, Brandi Swindell was attacked and maligned in personal arrogant ways by leftist elitists. She was attacked on the basis of where her campaign contributions came from despite massive out of state spending by so-called independent expenditure groups for her opponent. Her character and honor were trashed by leftist ideologues and their allies in the mainstream press.

Thus, when rabid liberals, particularly Idaho liberals start attacking a Conservative’s basic decency and humanity with the goal of personal destruction, there’s a new word that applies, “Swindelled.” Swindelling a candidate is bad for America. We attack anyone who is a regular American, anyone who is a person of conviction and what we end up with are those folks in Washington with plastic smiles who know the system well enough to profit from it and cut sweet deals that enrich themselves and cost the taxpayers.

I defended Brandi thoroughly, probably every day for a month I was standing up for her against the press of the liberal blogosphere. I took on Russ, I took on anyone who made an unfair attack.

I did something similar for Alan Keyes in 2000, though that was limited to the halls of Free Republic. Now with the blog, I have the opportunity for that worldwide high exposure post and the benefits of RSS.

I think its one of my great purposes here is to defend good people who come under attack from a left that behaves like a group of piranhas. Good people who are going to enter the political process (and God bless them for doing it) need someone who’ll watch their back and refute the lies and distortions, and the attempts to utterly destroy them by the online left wing attack machine.

In that spirit, I’m going to have a strong focus on doing everything I can on this little blog to refute the lies and distortions against a decent and honorable man, Bill Sali who is being Swindelled. If the left wanted to attack Sali for his stance on taxes and abortion, that’d be something we’d debate, but they’ve made a decision already to question his integrity and his capacity, in part because he’s overcome a minor disability to become a leader in our state.

The attacks are repulsive, unfair, and unjust. The left will continue to make them and I will continue to fight them, independent of the Sali campaign. Most of these gutter attacks are not worthy of a response from Rep. Sali, but someone has to and that’s where I come in. I believe that we’ll make Washington a better place by electing someone who has the courage of his convictions to Congress.

Overall, I’d consider almost a compliment if these people question your judgment and considering those attacking him believe having two men raise a child is as good as an intact family with a mother and a father, that our eyes are lying to us when they tell us an unborn child is a baby, and that we support our troops by maligning their mission and immediately believing any allegations against them. Indeed, people whom they mock and attack as “crazy” or “a freak” may be our only hope as these lunatics are taking over the asylum.

UPDATE:

A commenter said that Maryanne Jordan receiving out of state support was “unsubstantiated”. However, KCBI TV Covered it after the Boise Guardian first reported it. From the Boise Guardian’s original report:

While nothing shows up in Maryanne Jordan’s City Council campaign reports, she has been the direct beneficiary of thousands of dollars in “independent campaign expenditures” by out of state conservationists willing to pay to influence Boise voters.

In fact the, “Conservation Voters of Idaho” have collected $20,000 from two Seattle based groups and ponied up a measly $300 from local donors according to reports filed with the Boise City Clerk. She may have more appeal with Seattle spenders than those in Boise.

So far they have spent $13,000 on mailings and phone calls on Jordan’s behalf. That nearly equals Jordan’s total contribution amount listed on her own campaign report.

So, I consider them very well substantiated.
