Getting Tough on Sex Offenders
Posted by Adam Graham in : Idaho Conservative, TheI meant to comment on this yesterday. Bryan Fischer at the Idaho Values Alliance is going to be focusing on getting tough on sex offenders. After the awful ordeal of the Groen Children, there’s consensus the law needs to be changed and made tougher. He writes:
Your support of the IVA will make it possible for us to spend the time it takes to meet with legislators, evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the various proposals, and assist you in communicating your wishes to your representatives at the appropriate time. We’ll do our best to make sure you have the information you need to make your communication with them timely and effective, so that we will be in a position not just to hear or read about legislation, but be a part of making it.
Now, some of the proposals do have problems:
Rep. Jim Clark, R-Hayden, said, speaking of sexual predators, “I want to make Idaho the toughest state in the union for these guys to live.” Rep. Clark is proposing GPS tracking devices for violent sexual predators and mandatory death sentences for those convicted of sexually assaulting and murdering a child.
Mandatory death sentence has been ruled unconstitutional, but other than that, it sounds good.
I think its exciting that we do have the opportunity in Idaho to take some some strong measures on this and I’m very glad to see IVA lead the way.
