The Greatest Show on Earth

Posted by Adam Graham in : General

Britain’s Got Talent Judge Piers Morgan notes on his blog:

This is now officially the biggest talent show on the planet, and whoever does eventually win is going to a global superstar.

Even Simon is slightly shocked by how successful this series has been.

‘It’s incredible!’ he said after last night’s show finished. ‘It’s like the whole world is watching. This is the show I love doing most of all.’\

I’ve never been a big fan of American Idol, never even watched the show unless you count somebody showing a clip online and me watching it on their website, but Britain’s Got Talent has been something else, and it’s not just been Susan Boyle. It’s been a heck of a season.  The finals is full of great stories including:  2 Grand: A heart-warming grandfather-grand-daughter singing duo, dancing groups Diversity and Flawless: Two amazing dance acts, Hollie Steel: a ten year old who came back from a pretty bad flub and turned it around brillaintly, and then there’s the dance style of Aiden Davis.

Of course, there have been some acts that didn’t quite make the finals such as Fred Bowers, the 73-year old break dancer. I’ve only watched clips online, but I don’t think I’ve quite seen this collection of talent, with so many compelling personal stories.

On top of that, the judges have really added something. I had the Popular Stereotype image of Simon Cowell as world’s biggest jerk, but I think the Britain’s Got Talent Show displays another side, though flashes of jerkdom show up. Piers Morgan is a very sympathetic figure, and his recent defense of Susan Boyle from the tabloid trash press there seemed very sincere. And Amanda Holden really shines on this stage as well.

Of course, I know some will say there’s no real depth behind any of it. It’s all part of the show. If so, I have to say that it’s really turned into the greatest show on Earth for pure entertainment value, and a lot of people will be eagerly awaiting tomorrow night’s results.
