Help Wanted: Slave
Posted by Adam Graham in : ChristianityI saw an ad for a full-time Christian Writer. The bad news is the wages aren’t exactly full-time:
We are beginning an online ministry that will require a lot of content, emails, sales and marketing materials and other creative writing. We are looking for mature Christian Writers that are committed to communicating the truth via mundane though fun writing.
Please bid your fee for a 40Hrs ($2 – $3 per hour) week. Each week will have 80 to 120 assignments for you to complete. Most assignments will be 250 words or less. If we have larger assignments, the weekly assignments will be reduced.
Now, this is the type of ad that gets my goat as a writer. They don’t need a writer on their budget. They need a lot of volunteers to give an hour or two of their time. The $2-$3 an hour thing is understandable for a ministry if you’re asking four or five hours, but if you’re asking 40 hours and 120 assignments, you’re getting absurd and insulting.
Apparently, someone needs to go read, “Don’t muzzle the ox that treads out the corn.” -1 Corinthians 4:9-12.
On the bright side, if you’re reading this in the third world, you could e-mail them and be a very rich man.
