Heroes and Villains
Posted by Adam Graham in : PodcastPodcast Show Notes
In the Congressional spending debate, there are some heroes that need recognized and some villains that need exposed. A big hero is Congressman Joe Pitts (R-PA) who fought an earmark in his own district that was put in by Arlen Specter to merely benefit a developer. A villain is Congressman Don Young (R-AK) who in an extraordinary act of hubris changed a bill after it had been passed by both houses. (Hat Tip: Government Bytes) The good news is that the people of Alaska are finally saying, “Enough.” (Hat Tip: Instapundit.)
Also, we talk about waste in the Department of Agriculture including more than a billion dollars doled out for dead people. And we wrap up with a common sense idea, using marriage education to encourage marriage and fight divorce. (Hat Tip: World Magazine.)

Adam,
I never said you should not talk about the worst offenders, I said that rehashing the same old rhetoric leads to glazed eyes and, ultimately, inaction. Stevens’ “Bridge to Nowhere” and Young’s Florida highway are old news and we both know that there are plenty of questionable efforts to highlight.
But it’s cool that you brought up Pitts. I wanted to listen to the whole podcast but it was too scratchy – maybe you could rerecord it.

I’d not actually heard of Young’s Florida Highway, neither have most Americans. Secondly, Unfortunately, I can’t re-record. However I did try to address the scratchyness and if you forward past about the 17th-18th minute, it should get much better. Believe me, it was a frustrating experience. I had to start and stop recording about 5 times.

I think it was Charlie Gibson in a “Your Money” segment where I heard about Young’s Florida highway. Seemed pretty high profile to me. I could be wrong.
As far as the podcast tech, you are light years ahead of me, my friend, but I can imagine your frustration. I’ll give it another try.

I don’t doubt it. I’d heard a little bit about a change to a bill after Congress had enrolled it, plus remember not every American is as well-informed as you. If most Americans knew the foolishness that went on in Washington (and thought they could do something about it), we wouldn’t have 95%-98% incumbent re-election rates.
