How not to Assuage Californiaphobia
Posted by Adam Graham in : Idaho Conservative, TheErin Ryan, writing in thrive, makes her case why Californians coming to Idaho is not a bad thing and certainly you can’t say that all Californians are bad or a negative influence. However, one new implant from Sacramento, Mr. Doug Johns, makes this point:
“I just don’t like it when they maintain their California values, your standard stuck-up, angry, snotty, busy, fast life. We don’t need that here. It’s not San Francisco or L.A. or Stockton; it’s Boise,” he said. “When in Rome, do what the Romans do.”
And that’s exactly the point. If you want to live the idaho lifestyle, really live it, then I think a lot less people would have a problem. Personally, if I were a California transplant and got away from this stuff and some idiot, brought it back, I’d be annoyed to death. Erin rights after Mr. Johns’ statement:
Perhaps Johns forgets why Rome once ruled the civilized world. It swallowed up every culture it came across, leaving people no choice but to assimilate. The Californian invasion has been far less bloody, but a certain way of life is dying, or rather, giving way to some unknown future.
Alright, so if I understand her analogy, the California invasion is like the Roman empire sweeping across the world and forcing others to assimilate in the face of their conquering armies. Yeah, that’ll sooth people’s neves.
