I Am An Activist-And I am For Huckabee
Posted by Adam Graham in : Presidential Race 2008There’s a big difference between myself and most of the mainstream media and conservative media. Unlike figures in the traditional press or even the vast array of talking heads or blogging heads out there, I do not tell you what to do and what you ought to do, I do what I can.
I’ve come to the conclusion that of the choices available, Mike Hucakbee is the best candidate out there. Yes, I know the odds of defeating McCain in 2008 are slim, but high odds have never scared me away. Perhaps, I believe what Jefferson Smith (of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington) said his father believed, “Lost causes are the only ones worth fighting for.” But, given what I believe a McCain Nomination would mean (certain defeat at the polls) and what I believe a McCain Presidency (should he by some miracle win) would mean (the break up of the GOP and a multi-decade set back for conservativism) than I believe in fighting on.
Well the McCain Campaign and the GOP establishment believes that because I live in Idaho (which votes May 27), I should have no say in who my party nominates for President, I’m doing what I can to make my voice heard. I may not be able to vote, but I’ve got a phone and I can sure a debit card.
Now, a lot of folks support Governor Huckabee out there, but there’s work to be done, and I’m doing it. Over the last couple days, I’ve made 69 calls into Texas via the Huckabee Campaign Phone Bank and I sent in a small donation of $15. The calls have taken perhaps an hour, perhaps more and I’ve generally done them in groups of 20. I fully expect to make many more before this is all said and done.
If you support Huckabee, this is your chance. The Huck’s Army folks have been inspiring. They’re grit and determination to carry on their cause in the face of all odds is inspiring. Those from Texas, with Texas’ primary coming up have been pulling up their favorite quotes from the Texas Revolution. They say Texas may be Huck’s Alamo, where a noble effort is made, but they come up just short. However, they hope it is his San Jacinto, which was the turning point in Texas’ fight for Independence.
Someone quoted Sam Houston before the Battle of San Jacinto:
“We view ourselves on the eve of battle. We are nerved for the contest, and must conquer or perish. It is vain to look for present aid: none is at hand. We must now act or abandon all hope! Rally to the standard, and be no longer the scoff of mercenary tongues! Be men, be free men, that your children may bless their father’s name.”
That quote moves me and reminds me of the time. While I may have some disagreements with Governor Huckabee, I can trust him on the life issue, I believe he has heard the voice of the people and will secure our nation’s borders. Not only that, he will stand up against the Law of the Seat Treaty and the International Criminal Court. Our nation’s sovereignty is vital and Huckabee is the only major candidate who will protect it.
Now is the time, and if you want to see something done to stop McCain, this is your chance. You can visit mikehuckabee.com and sign up to be a Ranger, and make calls in Texas. They provide you phone numbers and, a call script, as well as answers to how to deal with different scenarios. You can also just donate a small amount. Something as small as $10 will help.

Hear, hear! I also encourage all those Republicans who don’t believe Sen. McCain is conservative enough to send all their money to Huckabee’s campaign. Got any money you were planning on sending to people like Congressman Bill Sali? Send that money to Huckabee instead! Take out a loan if you have to! Using the logic that 1) McCain is unelectable and 2) a McCain presidency would destroy the Republican Party, you really have no choice, do you? Don’t worry about how someone who is certain to be defeated at the polls would destroy the Party by winning at the polls — just write a check!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I gave $40 to Congressman Sali at his birthday party and will be sending quite a bit more. As for your other point. I think McCain will get creamed by Obama or Hillary. Should he win, he’ll destroy the GOP. I’ll clarify my post.

Despite my snarkiness, I do admire you for standing up for your convictions, no matter how unrealistic it is that they’ll make an actual difference. Even as a realist, I can still appreciate a dedicated idealist.
(snark mode back on)
Woo-hoo! More contributions to Bill Sali from someone outside his actual Congressional District! I think that moves his percentage up above the 95% mark for contributions coming from outside the 1st CD.

I doubt it. The dinner was hosted by mostly District 1 State Representatives, Senators, etc. Plus what district (1st or 2nd) the money comes from is largely irrelevant If that was going to have any legs, it would have been last election.

I have to admire you for standing for what you believe. It might be an effort going to waste as he has slim chances of being elected, but still taking a stance and doing something is important.
