If at First You Don’t Secede…

The Christian Exodus movement is recognizing a second site for people to relocate to: Gem County, Idaho.

The group started out in Anderson County, but some people couldn’t move to the East Coast, and from what I can best gather, they’re franchising out to Gem Country:

Christian Exodus, a group of individuals who believe in a literal interpretation of the U.S. Constitution, tempered with a devout Christian faith, had previously called for thousands of similar Christians to move to South Carolina one county at a time, starting with Anderson County. Their goal was to move enough people into the area to influence local elections, and in turn affect state elected officials.

With those key elements in place, the group hoped to either influence national legislation to return to a policy of limited federal government and increased states’ rights, or to secede from the Union of States.

Given that this has been around for a few years, I don’t see it going much, particularly towards secession. A secessionist movement in Idaho has little support outside of Pro-Life (the political activist formerly known as Marvin Richardson.) I don’t necessarily understand why Chris is in so much of an uproar about this. The people coming here are joining the Constitution Party, such as Paul Smith, who ran against Bill Sali. If you’re a Democrat, the possibility of a strong Constitution Party has got to be a welcomed possibility. However, I doubt there’s that much of a force that’ll be moving in even for that.

Idaho is fertile soil for freedom-loving Christians, and even though secession is a distant prospect, a return to self-government at the local level is an idea whose time has come. Instead of perceiving us Christians as authoritarian invaders, why not simply allow us our desire to be left alone and to govern ourselves as we see fit?

I’m a Christian, I’m a pro-life, pro-family activist. But coming to our state isn’t helpful You come breathing secession, with pictures from a secessionist meeting, and I don’t feel like we’re being left alone, I feel like my state is being driven into a secessionist movement. The last time we had a secession, half a million men lie dead in a stupid war. Despite the fact you’re latecomers to this state, the media will lump actions like supporting secession in with pro-life, pro-family activism of the rest of us.

    Dear Adam,
Perhaps you should explore the principle of Biblical Separation? History (which is really His Story) is full of examples of those who have had to separate from the ungodly in order to preserve their faith and protect their loved ones; the Pilgrims and Puritans who settled America are two good examples, as well as the pioneers who settled the west — including Idaho!
