Jerry Brady’s Good Paying Jobs
Posted by Adam Graham in : Idaho Conservative, TheDemocratic Candidate Governor Jerry Brady wants the state to have “good paying jobs”. How might one define “good paying jobs.” Well, ifB you’re Jerry Brady and boasting of beating Butch Otter in recent fundraising, the answer would be $7.50 an hour.
That’s what Jerry was recently offering people for a part time job doing calls for the campaign from 5-9 PM Sunday-Thursday, the prime hours for getting yelled at for interupting dinner.
As for benefits, well Jerry considers the $7.50 an hour a benefit, but the other big benefit of working for Brady is helping to elect “a great Governor” like Jerry Brady.
Mr. Brady is paying $1.70 an hour less than the average Wal-Mart worker gets. True, they don’t get the benefit of electing a “great Governor” at Wal-Mart but hey I think the $1.70 an hour makes up for it.
If people want to work a month or three for this pittance, by all means, feel free to. This is what low wage jobs are for. But, the Democrats should stop telling us they’re going to bring “living wages” to the state when they can’t even bring them to their own campaigns.

What wages are paid for more comparable telemarketing jobs? What do other candidates pay their telemarketers?
A Google search indicates to me that $7.50 is what’s paid to telemarketers in Utah by Catholics and the University of Utah, though I see that conservatives are paying $10 an hour.

Also, I give Jerry Brady a lot of credit for not using those really, really annoying automated calling systems.

Well, a lot of the telemarketing jobs are based on commission. I don’t actually take the Statesman at home and the website is so annoying, I may just go and buy a copy and see what jobs are paying. Though, I’ve seen some Telephone jobs that were $9.00 an hour and at my work that start quite a bit higher than that.
I was in telmarketing back in 2000 and earned $7.50 an hour. However, that was 6 years ago and in a poorer area. Living expenses have gone up.
In addition to this, the larger point is consistency. If Democrats are going to attack corporate America for not providing a “living wage” than shouldn’t they step up and provide their own employers a living wage?
