Just a Cup
Posted by Adam Graham in : PoetryWater sprays the ground,
Covering the grass in moisture.
Little children run and laugh
Through the sprinkler,
As the refreshing spray
Relieves the heat.
Why was there was no water for Terri?
The quarterback jumped and screamed,
Joined by the linebacker,
He grabbed the cooler
And Soaked the coach
In the cool liquid and ice
To celebrate the great victory.
Why was there no water for Terri?
Gallons to flush a toilet
Brush your teeth,
Wash your car,
Or do even the most mundane task,
Yet, couldn’t just one cup go to Terri?
Why do they welcome as heroes,
Those who bring water to thirsty foreign lands,
Yet here we punish and condemn
Those who seek to bring the greatest necessity
To a woman being dehydrated.
As I hold this bottle to my lips,
I can’t help but wonder,
Will there be a day
When there’ll be no water for me.
