Lead Us Not Into Temptation

Posted by Adam Graham in : The Lord's Prayer

Our Father

We want to be Holy,
We want to serve You,
Dear Father, guide us
Beside still waters,
Pure streams of holiness,
Keep our feet on straight paths.

Let your light guide us
To stand firmly
On that highway of holiness,
And not to wonder off
To the right and the left.
Keep us from wandering,
May our ways be righteousness
And truth before you.

I wonder if anyone can help. It is the line in the Lords Prayer thats says “Lead us not into temptation”. Do we need to ask God this? And if he does lead us there is it not for our own good? Isn’t temptation necessary for growth and testing?

I think another interpretation of the line could read “Leave us not when in temptation”. It makes more sense to me.

It was given my by a Spiritualist Church leader.

What are you thoughts on this?

My thoughts are temptation is a very hard time for individual. You may say that temptation may be for people’s good and you may have a point, but so may hunger, but we still ask for daily bread.
