Liberals from Mars–Conservatives, Venus

Posted by Andrea Graham in : Andrea's Posts

I’ve come to a conclusion. Liberals are from Mars and Conservatives are from Venus (or is it in the reverse?) Seriously, we’re all from planet earth, and for most of my readers, both are Americans, and both love their country, and both love freedom. But, each has their own version of history, scientific fact, their own constitution, and even their own Jesus Christ. Both sides insist they’re right and that the other side twists facts to suit their agenda.

What can a girl conclude? We must be living in two separate, but parallel universes that exist on the same plane. Either that or two separate countries within the same borders. You know, like Palastine and Israel?

When conservatives say they love America they are referring to the political, economic, and social foundations on which this country is based. While conservatives seek to preserve the nature of our country Liberals wish to change it.
Therefore when conservatives say they love America they are talking about our very way of life. When Liberals say they love America they are talking about the terra firma , bodies of water ,Flora ,Fauna, and other
physical aspects which make up our country. So mostly they are talking about dirt.

Of course from a Venusian prospective it looks like Martians don’t love America because their America is in many ways the exact opposite of our America and their love for their America threatens the existence of ours.

Seriously, I’m not sure it’s fair to say because they don’t agree with us on what political, economic, and social functions our country is based on, that they must not love America. Just because a person has a view of their country that is destroying the true fabric of the nation doesn’t mean they don’t love it.
    Just means they’re wrong ;)

But, of course they say the same thing about us. As a Christian, I can just stand on God’s word (or to be fair, my interpretation of God’s word), but without that, how could a person know who’s right? Everything is so politicized, there’s no room for open, honest communication.

    Andrea;
I’ve got to agree with Michael on this one…While I have no doubt that there are liberals out there who love America, the longer I live and experience public life, the more I become convinced that liberals and conservatives are speaking of two separate Americas. The liberal vision and the liberal VERSION of what constitutes America is not the same as ours. When they speak of America, they are speaking of another country than the one of which we speak. The same is true in the reverse, of course.

When battling liberals, we would do well to understand that.

When I thinkof liberals view of America, I think of Bizarro from Superman. In Bizarro World, things were the reverse of what they were in the normal world. So, Bizarro with good intentions would wreak havoc because that’s what he knew to do because of being Bizarro.

Its the same thing with the left. While I appreciate that people like Russ care about our country and don’t hate it at all. They honestly don’t understand the core values of our nation. We have a disconnect. When Russ says we need to become more like Europe he’s wrong. When he’s talking about American rights, his understanding is entirely different than ours. Michael and David are both right that when we say we love America and we love freedom, we both have that rhetoric however it means two different things to two different groups.

It would be like a someone raised catholic saying he loves the religion. He just wants to take the whole God thing out of it. Plus he would like to toss out the ten commandments. He would do away with the whole papal thing too and make it more democratic. But other than that he “loves” Catholicism.

boys, in case you missed it, I was being a tad tongue in cheek.

the longer I live and experience public life, the more I become convinced that liberals and conservatives are speaking of two separate Americas. The liberal vision and the liberal VERSION of what constitutes America is not the same as ours. When they speak of America, they are speaking of another country than the one of which we speak. David, that was precisely my point, but if we’re going to dialogue, we need to humor them. When we say things like, “Liberals don’t love America” they get offended because they think we’re saying they don’t love *their* America. Of course they love their America. It’s ours they have a problem with. If we’re not talking about the same thing, though, we might as well try arguing with someone who doesn’t speak Venusian… er I mean English.

A house divided cannot stand. If we don’t want to eventually end up on the brink of civil war, we need to learn each other’s language, and it helps to start by remembering what we have in common.

Sad thing is that a lot of Catholics do that and the media buys it and gets on the church if the Church excommunicates them.

Adam, I’m at a loss. What are you reffering to?
