McCain Puts on the Most Conservative Convention in 16 Years

Posted by Adam Graham in : Presidential Race 2008

I’m not a huge fan of the National Conventions. I’ve stated that they have become infomercials. More than that, on the Republican side, they have become a Rockefeller Republican event. Probably, the most conservative principal speaker to appear at the 2004 Convention was Zell Miller–and he’s a Democrat.

This year, looks much different. Now, some folks are obsessing with who is keynoting the event, Rudy Giuliani. Giuliani failed horribly in the Republican Primaries. That’s not why he got the spot. The keynote address highlights the key issues of the campaign, with McCain, it’ll be national security. Giuliani won’t be speaking to signal shift on social policies.

The convention will include speeches from Mike Huckabee, Fred Thompson, Sarah Palin, Michael Steele, and Bobby Jindal. Word is that Tom Coburn will speak as well. After nearly two decades, the muzzle is at last being lifted from the mouths of conservatives, and I’ll give McCain some credit for it.
