McDonalds: Reliable Source of Healthy Food

Posted by Adam Graham in : General

McDonald’s gets bashed for being  a contributor to American obesity. I tend to think there’s personal responsibility involved. Case in point was today.  I wanted to eat in Boise before heading on the plane to Sandpoint. However, amidst all the fast food on the concourse where could I find a South Beach friendly healthy meal? McDonald’s. Their Chicken Caesar Salad is awesome and fits right within the diet. There was a pizza place offering a Chicken Caesar for $1.80 more. With McDonald’s, it’s not the restaurant, but what you choose to eat there that causes problems.

The airline flight was fascinating for the food. I really didn’t expect there to be anything on a 1 hour flight from Boise to Spokane on Alaska Airlines, but they brought by food and beverages. While I don’t drink, I had to be impressed that they offered beer and wine for free with ID. It was a very positive experience that I’ve never gotten when flying on the bigger airlines.

We got a surprise that was a mixed one when we got the rental car. It was an SUV, which was not what I (or my gas budget) was expecting. Still, the cargo space is handy. Too bad, these really are a luxury.

We had dinner at Duke’s Cowboy Grill in Ponderay. The place had atmosphere. They even went all out and brought us our bill in a 1950s Western Novel. And yes, you can eat healthy anywhere. We avoided the ribs and got Salads. :)
