Mike Simpson Report: Proud, Embarassed, Proud

Posted by Adam Graham in : Idaho Conservative, The

My Congressman, Mike Simpson is someone I gripe about quite a bit. Mainly, it has to do with his pork habit. Though, perhaps, it’s time I realize he can’t help himself. He has an addiction to big spending special interest projects. It makes him feel good immediately, but his children and grandchildren aren’t going to like the Credit Card bill that comes. But what to do? There’s little way to treat this addiction. Sadly, there’s not even rehab center to get these addicts some help. Perhaps, I could write the Congressman and ask him to get an earmark for one.

Regardless, Mike Simpson has been acting outside the Fiscal (Pork) arena and deserves some recognition:

I’m proud of Congressman Simpson’s decision to stand up for the right of anti-war protestors to demonstrate outside his office. It shows real character to stand up support the rights of people you disagree with to express their viewpoints in a peaceful manner. Bravo, Congressman.

I’m ashamed that Simpson is pushing a resolution forcing the Justice Department to investigate the Bowl Championship Series. This is about as relavant to American government as the steroids scandal in Baseball (i.e. It’s not.) I guess Congress has nothing better to do. It’s not like we’re a nation at war, with a $9 trillion debt, a Social Security system that’s headed for bankruptcy, with a Medicare system that this year will take in more than it gives out.  Congress has time to worry about College Football.

I’m proud of Congressman Simpson’s sponsorship of a measure that puts the breaks on unethical diplomats who bring domestic servants to the US and keep them in a state of virtual slavery. It’s not the type of thing that: 1) most people in Idaho will hear about or 2) will reap a ton of political rewards. It’s something that you do because it’s the right thing and Congressman Simpson chose to lend his name to it.
