Mitt Romney Update

Posted by Adam Graham in : Presidential Race 2008

Remember the Maine

Mitt Romney won Maine with  a majority of the vote, well ahead of John McCain and Ron Paul. This is a good sign as Maine’s a moderate state where both Senators endorsed McCain. Still, it alsopoints to the key strength of organization. In States like Wyoming, Maine, and Nevada, organization has made all the difference. Winning the larger states is the challenge.

Can You Say Identity Politics?

Dan Jones and Associates show Mitt Romney leading John McCain in Utah by an absurd 84-4% margin. While one would expect, a strong lead. Wow. Considering Romney only leads McCain by 23, that says something about how the State GOP is really pulling behind their co-religionist.

Interestingly enough, McCain’s lead in Arizona is surprisingly narrow according to the latest Rasmussen Poll, McCain leads 43-34%. McCain should win, but if he wins by less than double digits, or with less than a majority, it’ll be blow for his campaign.

No Second Act for Mitt

Some are beginning to speculate on Romney in 2012. The answer is likely to be no. If Romney fails to win 2008, for all intents and purposes, his career is over. He began the primary process by blowing three crucial states he expected to win and spent significant money in: Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. Yet, in Iowa he was fell by David’s slingshot and in New Hampshire, his campaign was run over by John McCain’s bus.

Conservatives still harbor doubts, which is why McCain has a very good shot of triumphing despite Conservatives fears, because many simply don’t trust Romney, plus other, better governors may be on the ground in 2012 including Mississippi’s Haley Barbour and South Carolina’s Marc Sanford.
