More Abdul Rahmans
Posted by Adam Graham in : ChristianitySome thought it was over when Abdul Rahman went into exile, but according to news reports, its just beginning:
KABUL, March 28 2006, (LifeSiteNews.com) – US-based Christian news source, Compass Direct, reports that more Christians have been arrested for their faith in Afghanistan in the wake of the release of Abdul Rahman. Compass, a news service that tracks persecution of Christians mostly in Islamic countries, says harassment of the Christian community has been stepped up.
Compass says two more Christian converts have been arrested in other parts of the country, but further information is being withheld in the “sensitive situation” caused by the international media furor over Rahman.
Reports of beatings and police raids on the homes of Christians are filtering out of the country through local Christian ministers…
The threat of death hangs over the heads of all Afghan Christians, of whom US-based groups say there may be as many as 10,000, meeting secretly in houses for prayer and bible study, and living in fear of their lives. Under Afghanistan’s strict Islamic law conversion to another religion is a capital offense and Muslim leaders have been calling for Rahman’s execution and threatening to kill him…
When the announcement of Rahman’s release was made public, demonstrations broke out in which protesters chanted, “Death to Christians” among the anti-Bush and anti-American slogans
So, this is what billions of American dollars and hundreds of American lives get us? This issue really calls into question whether its possible to have an Islamic regime that respects the rights of anyone but Muslims.
The Taliban was bad and I agree with the Jawa Report, in that I’m glad they’re gone. The question that has been answered is whether an Islamic societies want the same freedom of religion and thought as the West. The answer is a resounding no in Afghanistan and we’ve got a mixed record in Iraq on religious liberty issues.
At this point, the people who are calling “Death for Christians” are the exact type of people who can be recruited by terrorist groups, the type of people who richly deserve to be oppressed themselves, by groups like the Taliban. So, I’m done, if “Moderate” Muslims (the kind who say Christians should be chopped in pieces) want to liberate themselves from other Muslims, so they can be the ones to persecute Christians and other religious minorities, more power to them. But, don’t expect Americans to pay the bill.
