My Political Future
Posted by Adam Graham in : GeneralI’ve been on vacation from work this past week, which gives rise to some time for reflection on my life and future. This is the first of two posts on the future and thoughts on my life.
My life will always involve politics. I believe that those who understand the system should take pains to be involved in it. The question is not if I’ll be involved, but how.
I’ve considered the possibility of another run for office in 2008. I’ve all but ruled that out. The campaign would require a solid commitment for 8 months, and at this point in my life that’s simply not a commitment I’m going to be able to make.
In addition, I’m happy with my life as it is. I could spend my life without getting elected to much (or anything at all) and still be happy. I’m also working to establish my wife and I in the Middle Class here in Boise. I’m concerned about issues like tax reform, choice in education, as well as state laws to help families and marriage.
I’ve reached the conclusion that I’ll only run for public office again, if God brings people to me who want to see me run and are willing to provide support for that effort. I’m not going to run another solo effort.
I’ve not reached a decision about whether I’ll run for re-election as Republican Precinct Committeeman. If someone wants to run in my precinct, I’ll almost certainly yield to them. If not, I’m about 50-50 on another term. While, I’ve generally believed in serving on your precinct, if its available, it was almost too much to try and run a blog and serve on the committee and fulfill my duties. It’s not healthy to get only four hours of sleep. I feel blogging is more beneficial than anything else I’ve done in politics here in Idaho.
I fully expect to continue to use blogging and my research skills to further what I believe to be the best interests of our state and nation. However, the key question each individual has to ask is whether you can make the best impact inside the system or out. Given the success we’ve had with the Idaho Conservative scorecard, and other ventures, I believe the best impact I can have is outside the system.
