Non-Endorsements for US House, District 1
Posted by Adam Graham in : Idaho Conservative, TheAs a blogger in Idaho, it behooves me to discuss the upcoming primary election for the US House. Having weighed the candidates, I’ve made my choice. But, first let me run down a list of the candidates.
Shelia Sorensen is unacceptable as a Republican nominee. She attended an out of state fundraiser with liberals such as John Kerry to support her rabid pro-abortion views. She’s off the chart on this issue and a political opportunist to boot. Had Otter not run for the House, she’d still be on a beach in Hawaii, but power has a magic effect on the woman. Lets wave Aloha to Shelia for good.
Skip Brandt never got started well in this race. His campaign has been low visability. He’s a good Conservative but for a vote for the 1 cent sales tax increase in 2003, but his campaign has really not been competent.
I’ve grown to like Keith Johnson throughout the campaign despite the fact he seems to me to be an establishment guy with endorsements from people like former Governor Phil Batt, Treasurer Ron Crane, and Secretary of State Ben Ysura. That’s a great concern to me. We’re not going to get change in Washington by sending up someone whose going to be buddy with whoever the establishment is. I’m not saying for certain, Mr. Johnson’s that way, but it raises a red flag.
He also began his campaign with a negative attack ad though he’s been more positive and folksy in follow ups. Take a look at this one and this one. He’s a candidate, if he were the nominee I could grow to like. But, he continues to struggle in the blogosphere. He noted, no liberal blogger endorsed him, so count this Conservative out as well for the primary.
The three remaining candidates are all fine Conservatives. Choosing between them is a tough task. But choose we must. Only one candidate can beat Shelia Sorensen. Divided Conservatives will elect Hawaii’s 3rd Representative to the House. We must unite behind one candidate.
Robert Vasquez was my gut choice for this office, but heretofore he’s run a relatively poor campaign. His issue of immigration has been hot. His stance is courageous, but sadly he’s failed to address other issues. He even failed to return answers to the Idaho State Voter Guide. He cannot unite Conservatives in common cause and he will not be an effective candidate for the fall or to win the primary.
Norm Semanko is a good man. He’s a man with solid values and conservative beliefs. He’s been active in this campaign for a long time. I’ve been contacted by him in regards to the letter and ran to him at the March for Life in Boise this year.
He’s a solid individual who has run a hard, honorable campaign. He is not, however my reccomended choice for US Congressman.
