By the Numbers: Why Transit Will Never Be Energy Efficient

The anti-planner has a fascinating article showing why transit will never be energy efficient by the numbers. The long and short of the problem is this: Most forms of mass transit run empty an inordinate amount of time.

One notable exception to this is van pooling, because the vans, unlike buses and such don’t run when people aren’t riding in them.

If folks are truly interested in reducing emissions in Boise, they’d do far better to encourage people to car pool or van pool rather than pushing buses which are simply not going to be adopted by a large portion of the population here in the Treasure Valley any time soon.
