On Idaho’s Next Senator

Could this be at the tale end of Larry Craig’s Wikipedia entry when it’s all said and done? Someone posted a comment at Idablue claiming the existence of a Brandi for Senate Campaign and provided the address of Generation Life. Alan of Idablue did a trace search as some people were at least partially falling for it and found the post was made from Los Angeles.
Well, as someone who’s a little more attune to the situation with Brand Swindell than liberal blogs, a campaign for the US Senate doesn’t appear to be on the horizon at this point. She’s very busy working for her organization, Stanton Health Care which is providing life affirming services to women in crisis pregnancies.
While I would never say never, I consider a Brandi for Senate campaign improbable at this point, though I still have the graphic.
UPDATE
P.T. Barnum was right, “There’s one born every minute.” Now the Boise Guardian is picking up the “story“ completely ignorning Alan proving it a spoof. One commenter over at Alan’s place is even making some bizarre argument about computer IPs through Washington State.
There seem to be three things driving this rumor:
- Absolute liberal cluelessness to what’s real and what’s not in regards to satire. I mean, these are the folks that believe Bill Sali fan is a legitimate conservative site rather than a satire. (Yeah and Blame Bush is a real liberal site.) They’d like to think conservatives are dumb, etc. so they buy into the notion that a site where some posting as a conservative says dumb things, it must be true. And if someone claims to be Brandi Swindell panhandling Idaho blogs for a donation, it must be true.
- Ego. Yeah, Brandi Swindell is going to stop by small fry blogs to beg for money. “Wow, this blog is importnant.” Here’s the truth. If Brandi runs for Senate, she’s going to have real fundraisers with a huge apparatus raising funds by the thousands of dollars. She’s certainly not going to show up on Idablue begging for cash.
- It’s another chance to attack Brandi Swindell. Leftists just love to hate her. Unfortunately, she hasn’t been saying or doing a whole lot that’s controversial, so attacking her mercilessly doesn’t make sense, but with a Senate announcement, it’s time for the left to break out it’s attack sticks.
Well, the libs’ mix of ego, hatred, and cluelessness drives this “story”, I’ll tell you that it ain’t happening. Believe me, I know people who work with Swindell. She’s not running at this point.

While I don’t think the Swindell posting was legit, I don’t think the intertubes work the way you think they do. One, it’s really easy to spoof an IP address and two, the way traffic is routed local IP’s can show up from all kinds of wacky places.
But yes, I don’t think it’s very probable that Brandi is courting local blogs for any money.
On the other hand, Brandi will not have a “huge apparatus raising funds by the thousands of dollars” as you put it. She’ll have a few church volunteers on the phone and at “small” functions.
Let’s face it, she wouldn’t stand a chance, she wasn’t even remotely qualified to run for city council, let alone the Senate. She’d make herself and those who support her a laughingstock. I’m not saying she shouldn’t run, I’d think it would be hilarious, but if you think she has a probable chance even getting 5% in a primary then you might want to rethink talking about Idaho politics, and Idaho Republican politics at that.

It turned up at Boise Guardian too. If I were her, at the very least I’d announce on a sympathetic blog. It’s not like I come here to campaign or anything like that.
Her name ID in Twin Falls is roughly the same as mine in Boise (i.e. who?), but I’m also sure she could put together a halfway decent fundraiser through more traditional means.

Technical note: Where an IP address is registered often has no relation whatsoever to the user’s physical location. I just ran mine through http://visualiptrace.visualware.com/ and was told I was in Phoenix, Arizona.

I’m not enough of an internets guru to know about ISP buying and selling services and misleading their locations. However, I note that the inclick was from a Google search on Brandi Swindell. Seems a pretty unlikley route for an official Swindell supporter to get to my site to post her annoucement in the comments. And, her site has nothing about a Senate run. So I think it’s bogus.

Yeah, Lane, I’d agree. if she announced on a blog, she’d do it here. However, she’s not gonna announce. And Alan, congrats on reaching the right conclusion.

Chris, I think that you folks on the left are doing quite a bit of wishful thinking regarding what Brandi’s loss in the Boise City Council race. It wasn’t really about a lack of qualification, but a lack of preparation. She jumped in 5 weeks early. And in a month she raised tens of thousands of dollars for City Council race. If she ran for a Senate seat or house seat down the line, she’d be far more prepared, the election would matter more and she’d have more time to study up and introduce herself to the people of Idaho. I don’t think she’s going to run at this point (maybe she’ll run down the line, but like I said she’s occupied right now), I expect the primary to be Rommell v. Risch.
