On Mississippi’s New Senator

Posted by Adam Graham in : Government Spending

Roger Wicker will be the new US Senator from Mississippi. This is one of those moves that makes me sigh. On the issues, he’s slightly worse than Lott according to Red State:

American Conservative Union (lifetime): Wicker = 91.5%; Lott = 92.4%
Club for Growth (2006): Wicker = 52%; Lott = 71%
National Taxpayers Union (2006): Wicker = 56% (C+); Lott = 76% (B+)

Plus Wicker garned a 2% on the RePork Card, worse than my Congressman, Mike Simpson (R-ID). Though, Red State points out he’s less obnoxious than Lott, that’s not a whole lot of comfort. It’s time for those who care about their state to primary some of these dudes before they destroy our country.

One of the huge potential problems for Fred Thompson’s campaign was illustrated by the praise heaped on Wicker’s appointment. Cutting spending will be a challenge if you’ve got big spenders to thank for your election.
