Playing Let’s Pretend
Posted by Adam Graham in : GeneralBryan Fischer points out that transgenderism is the latest ground in the culture war. I’m fairly libertarian in regards to what people do personally. If someone wants to butcher themselves, provided they’re an adult, that’s their business as far as the state’s concerned.
My problem is that the demands of Trangender activism more often than not mean people having to pretend that they really are the opposite gender, despite the biological state to the contrary. In many cases, people who identify themselves as transsexuals don’t even have the surgery, in which case they may only take hormones, without mutilating themselves. Regardless, they remain biologically the sex of their birth.
Transgenderism is a psychological disorder where troubled folks believe they are the opposite sex. Other folks have psychological disorders that make them believe they are several different people. Do we need to start issuing multiple IDs to them? Do they get a tax deduction for each personality? Does each get a vote? I hope not.

Hormone treatment and sex-reassignment surgery treat the symptoms and suffering associated with gender dysmorphic disorder. Where’s the problem?

That kind of “treatment” only makes the condition worse. If a person is biologically male but believes they are female, their body is not the problem–their belief they are the other gender is.
As with any mental disorder, whatever the biological/environmental causes, humoring them only hurts them; after the so-called “treatment” they will STILL be a man who thinks they are a female. Only now they will be a mutilated man and farther from a cure than ever. A true treatment/cure requires coming to accept their gender (which is genetic and immutable.)
And it would help loads if we’d free our society of it’s anti-male sexism that hates masculinity and worships femininity. It’s a huge contributing factor.

To me this would be akin to treating someone who thinks they’re Captain Hook and are disturbed that they have a hand by cutting off their hand.

How so? I can certainly agree with your disdain for misandry, but most of that comes from radical feminists, not transitioning intersexed women. And don’t forget that some of us transitioners are growing into manhood, rather than the other way around.
