    That’s a non-sequitur. The bill makes some exceptions when English
    is allowed not to be used:

    (e) To promote and encourage tourism and economic development, including
    the hosting of international events;

    In addition, the State motto doesn’t affect the State Language of
    government. Virginia has had English only for 26 years and their motto is still “Sic Semper Tyrannis”:

    Coeur d’Alene.

    Actually, the section of the bill that’s purported to allow the continued use of the state motto is Section 4.f:
    “(4) Language other than English may be used when required:
    (f) To change the use of non-English terms of art, phrases, proper names or expressions included as part of communication otherwise in English;”

    Personally, I’m not sure that would stand up to a determined court challenge. That being said, I really don’t see this bill really changing anything substantial.

    Coeur d’Alene.

    That’s a City name, not really germane, though if they changed it it to something like Bob, it would save me much time on resume. I think what it will mean in terms of a show of state unity will have an impact.
