Politics: Now Going the Chicago Way

Posted by Adam Graham in : Presidential Race 2008

The last two weeks of this Presidential campaign are going nasty and I think the decision of Democrats including Senator Biden and the mainstream press to go after Joe the Plumber’s personal life are leading to the mother of all backlashes.

The basic decision to shut down Joe the Plumber has signalled an escalation. Obama’s the Democratic nominee and therefore, it’s no surprise, this thing is going the Chicago Way like the scene with Kevin Costner and Sean Connery in “The Untouchables”:

The attacks on Sarah Palin were bad enough, but conservatives are ticked off about Joe the Plumber. The attacks on an American citizen who dared to ask a question of a canidate is the straw that broke the camel’s back. Coupled with the unbalanced attacks on Sarah Palin (compared to Obama’s relative skating) and recent cuts at Cindy McCain, this is set out a nasty.

Yes, some Republicans will talk about Wright.

Yes, some Republicans will talk about Obama’s youthful drug use, but mainly to call the media out on its double standard about reporting on Republicans.

Yes, John Kerry will joke about John McCain wearing adult diapers. Though, I would note this seems to be more in the trend of the second grade way than the Chicago Way. As an aside, does Kerry still insist that John McCain is a good friend? These Senate friendships are incredibly shallow or twisted if that’s the case…
