Proof Positive Democrats Take Blacks for Granted

Senator Joe Biden (D-De.) was down in South Carolina campaigning and had this to say down in South Carolina:

Delaware, he noted, was a “slave state that fought beside the North. That’s only because we couldn’t figure out how to get to the South. There were a couple of states in the way.”

Red State’s Mark I translates this statement:

Biden has just suggested that the State of Delaware, the first state of the Union, would have sided against the Union in the Civil War if it could have. The reason? Not state’s rights, mind you, but slavery. Biden characterizes Delaware not as a libertarian, or federalist state determined to protect its interests against a tyrannical Federal government, but as a “slave state” that only sided with the Union because of its physical location. Never mind those uppity abolitionists, Delaware would have fought to keep the blacks in their place, if only they could have, says Biden. It almost sounds like he is saying that the rest of the country wouldn’t have had all these problems over all these years either, if only Delaware could’ve fought for the Confederacy.

Biden’s statement is not only insulting to Blacks, it also insults Delaware, and southerners. How many mainstream Southern Democrats really want slavery brought up by a guy from Delaware. Most Southerners would be insulted by Biden’s amazing supposition that their states are summed up by the presence of slavery and that will help him understand life in the modern day South. Even those who argue for the Civil War, argue about State’s rights, not slavery. As they’ll point out that 90% + of the Southerners who fought in the Civil War didn’t hold slaves. Sadly, after 36 years in the Senate, Biden most likely lack the common sense and/or class to call it quits for his presidential run and will continue to besmirch both his great state and the South for the rest of the campaign.

Well, maybe not quite “proof positive,” Politics is Apple Sauce takes issue:

The title “Proof Positive Democrats Take Blacks for Granted” insists that if one member of a political party behaves in a certian way, all members of that party must agree with him…To make the statement that democrats take African Americans for granted is a bold statement that requires strong evidence, something that Adam fails to provide.

Well, I’d say there’s more proof such as continued poverty and crumbling black schools, and the fact that come general election time, Democrats don’t bother campaigning for Black votes because they figure the pigmentation means they’re already in the bag. However, he has a point that Biden’s statement (not subject to widespread condemnation by the left BTW) isn’t proof positive, it’s just another exhibit.
