Questioning Jimmy Carter
Posted by Adam Graham in : PoliticsCross-posted from Where I Stand
Jimmy Carter has become a Kos Diarist (maybe I’ll catch "W" on Red State after 2009). Anyway we get this entry where Carter issues his questions that Carter claims (hat tip: 43rd State Blues) show most people are Democrats at heart:
Early this month, I had lunch in Plains with a family from Panama City, and a high school girl asked me why she should be a Democrat. I asked her a series of questions that all bloggers should use in discussions:
- Do you prefer peace or war?
- Do you favor tax breaks for the richest Americans or working families?
- Would you rather destroy the environment or protect it?
- Do you approve the torture of prisoners?
- Do you think our government should secretly spy on your family?
- Do you think we should abandon every nuclear arms control agreement negotiated since Dwight Eisenhower was president?
- Do you approve of your part of the national debt now being $28,000 and increasing by $300 each month?
- Do you think we should meld religion and government?
She gave me the Democratic answer to all the questions, and I believe that most Americans will agree, no matter if their state is red or blue.
Well isn’t that nice, like a good demogogue. Carter’s got his list. Here’s mine:
- Do you favor a "peace" where US citizens are held prisoners overseas? Our enemies disgrace us abroad and we’re left teaching kids to duck and cover? Do you favor a peace where Mutual Assured Destruction is our happiest scenario? (Jimmy’s peace)
- Do you favor a Prime Rate of 20%, double digit inflation? Do you believe that you’re made richer by making other people poorer? Who do you trust to invest money: a government bureaucrat whose job is to insure his own survival or someone who has spent a lifetime creating wealth?
- Do you think letting out of control forest fires rage is better than logging? Should the environment only be protected if it costs jobs? Shouldn’t look at ways to protect the enviroment and jobs?
- Have you heard of John McCain who wrote an anti-torture bill? Do you know what party he belongs to?
- Do you think our Government should secretly spy on people communicating with Osama bin Laden? Even if they’re in your family.
- Do you think we should avoid researching valuable technology that could protect us from a nuclear attack because of some treaties signed with a defunct government?
- How will you solve the deficit by electing the party whose programs are more responsible for the current debt?
- Should any expression of faith in God be excluded from a Government building no matter how benign?
Mr. President, its all in how you ask the question.

Isn’t that the truth. There is no “democratic answer” to the questions as Carter asks them. To state that there is is to state that Republicans favor war, tax breaks for the rich, destruction of the environment, torture, government spying on private families, abandonment of national protection, increasing individual debt and a religious-state chimera.
I could fisk this more, but it all comes down to four words. Carter is an idiot.

Idiot? I wouldn’t say that. Carter’s too good at being a demogogue to simply dismiss it as stupidity.
