Quick Debate Thoughts
Posted by Adam Graham in : Politics,Presidential Race 2008The following is a very brief summary of the GOP presidential Debate.
First of all, Fred Thompson was the man. In past debates and appearances, there was a lack of passion, a lack of desire, energy, etc. that many found uninspiring. Today, he was on his game and in control. He looked like a president, sounded like a president, and outclassed his opponents on every step of the faith. His focus on entitlement reforms was right on.
I also think his challenging of the moderator was brilliant. (Hat Tip: Every Political Blog on the Planet). It may remind people of another moment by one Ronald Wilson Reagan:

Romney did a decent job and sounded very confident and showed an amazing amount of grace and class.
Huckabee stumbled a few times, but sounded more conservative than in the past, which will help in Iowa. I was somewhat comforted by the fact that he wasn’t going to spend federal dollars to promote his music and art plan, but just use the bully pulpit.
Tancredo was strong, particularly on the Department of Education.
Alan Keyes appeared at the debate and many are mystified by the reason he was invited. The Des Moines Register invited him, I would think, because just eight years ago, he won one out of seven Caucus votes in Iowa.
Keyes has taken a far more prophetic stance than in years past. Honestly, I don’t think a Presidential campaign lends itself to that type of role, and that he would probably be more effective hosting a radio show or making the rounds of the TV talk shows as an analyst. Our current presidential process barely lends itself to a serious discussion of issues.
As for the others: Hunter, Paul, Giuliani, and McCain. They didn’t say much worth reporting.
