Remembering 9/11

Posted by Adam Graham in : Video Blogging

Six years ago, I was driving down Meridian Road in Kalispell when I heard the news. I’d heard about the first plane hitting, but I just thought it was accident. However, two planes, this was much more than an accident.

I got back to the house and found my dad watching Fox News. I arrived in time to see both towers collapse. I remember the people standing in New York, covered with soot and ash from the explosion.

Some people talk about the performance of varios people on those days. September 11th, 2001 showed us the best of America. There was a Congress that came together as a body of human beings:

The President worked to rally the American people through those difficult days. Though many have critiqued his performance for good or for ill, at the time it was inspiring and it was comforting to so many of us:

What happened in the days after of 9/11 for many, if not most Americans is that we carried on. It was incredibly surrealistic to try and go to classes and go about my day like normal, but we managed.

The events of 9/11 changed my life as it did the lives of so many others. It brought with it new worries of terrorism coming to my workplace. It also brought a realization that life was short and that we only have so much time to live and ought not to put that off.

Each September 11th, I remember that day in my own way. Generally, it’s through music. If I listen to Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue” and perhaps far more poignantly Alan Jackson’s “Where Were You” transports me back to that day (UPDATE: Here’s the story behind the song.)

Today, it is fitting to honor the heroes of 9/11 and those who lost their lives on that tragic day. I’ll never forget and I pray our nation doesn’t either.   I’ll post links of interest here as I find them:

UPDATE:

This song is more poignant than when Darryl Worley wrote it originally:

This is my third attempt at updating this post, so hopefully third time’s the charm.

Andrea provides her thoughts here.

The mainstream media won’t show videoes of what happened on 9/11, but Cat will as she posts several memorial videos on 9/11 including this one:
