it's outrageous and a crying shame, no matter why there's consensus on this. Bush is proving himself to be just another politican (and politicans are crooked no matter what Letter they wear) We need fewer politicans and more true statesmen.

Bingo. We do need to clarify what we're talking about here, as well. Pam Spaulding, like a lot of Bloggers has the impression that the complete operations of these ports is going to be handed over to Dubai.

Adam

A quick check shows Spaulding is not only trying to give the wrong impression about the scope of operations but the very nature of the deal in question. She is either intentionaly lying or just plain ignorant .

"Bush's deal with a United Arab Emirates-based company to provide operational and security control over six of our nation's largest ports is outrageous, given he's the Wartime President. Some of the 9/11 hijackers were originally from the UAE. Several businesses in the country are also suspected of having financial ties to al-Qaeda and other terrorists groups. Imagine if Clinton made a decision like this? "
Pam

Bush's deal? This isn't a deal between Bush and the UAE . This is the business transaction over which the US can only exercise oversight. Several foreign companies operate ports in the US.

Now these so called "progressives" are talking out of both sides of their mouths, It was these same lefties who castigated this administration and labeled it racist for making any connection between Arabs and terrorists. They dismissed the fact that several of the hijackers were from the UAE by mentioning that Timothy McVey was from the United States.

As for this :

I think this is a huge moment for the Administration. Russ has often asked me to apply the test of, "What if this were Clinton or Gore?" Well, if it were Clinton or Gore, I'd suggest a lot of the people on the left would be castigating those of us concerned for xenophobia. I'd probably be more outraged, because I didn't trust Clinton at all. I have some trust in Bush.

Adam

IT WAS CLINTON IN THE PAST. But you simply don't recall because there wasn't the same outrage. The Panama Ports Company is owned by Communist China. Another Chinese company controls ports on both ends of the canal. In terms of national security this poses a far greater danger to us. Keep in mind the it was another Chinese company,
Hutchison Whampoa Ltd	which dropped out of the bidding allowing Dubai Ports World to win out.

Well, as long as Republicans control Congress, the legislation he signs or vetoes will be Republican passed.

I'm amused that Bush's first veto might be over a piece of Republican legislation. I figured he hasn't used the veto stamp yet because he hasn't yet figured out that it doesn't say OTEV ("what's that, Laura, some Jewish thing?")
