Sweet’s Power Play: The Result

Posted by Adam Graham in : Idaho Conservative, The

I’ve written about Sen. Gerry Sweet’s attempt to move the leadership of his party in the district to the right. I think what he’s done is a model of what Conservatives need to be doing. That said, what’s the result?:

Wins:

Sweet’s newphew, Brian Sweet beat Shelia Sorensen Volunteer Jane Chase by a 56-44%.

In the big upset, Scott Galloway won a 61-39% victory over Legislative District Chairwoman Julie Pipal.

Losses:

Jerome DeVore beat Darrel McRoberts by a 59-41%.

Sweet’s Mother Ida Sweet lost to Moderate Sally Norton 57-43%

Sweet himself lost to Eva Gay Yost lost by one vote out of 577 cast. He’s got to get a recount on that. One little mistake in those ballots could make a difference. It should be pretty cheap, but making this effort, he’s got to recount.

Still, worst case scenario, Conservatives went to battle and we picked up two seats from Moderates and maybe next time, they pick up another two. The battle’s joined for the heart and soul of the party, so still congratulations on a bold move and on the bright side, both these guys who won are young guys. Sweet’s nephew is obviously a young man as is Galloway who’s 27, so the future of conservatives was renewed.
